2016 Election, HOT Topic ME

In my opinion the 2016 election is going to be centered on a ME strategy?

What is Hillary going to say?
Biden?
Paul Ryan?
Christie?
Rand Paul?
Mitt Romney?
Other candidates?

What stance or position is going to win over the independents?

That's so far down the road it's impossible to tell. Voters are fickle and indecisive. Look at the support for the Iraq war before we went in (>70%) and by they end it was very unpopular.

The Obama administrations strategy right now has overwhelming popularity. Should a terrorist attack occur on our soil or to more than a single American and that will flip overnight.

One thing that can be counted on in the next election cycle, the Republican candidates will automatically lampoon the strategy/policies of the Obama camp. Clinton will too if the polls are disfavorable to the approach.

Nobody gets elected by saying "I agree and would do the same thing."

Obama does not have overwhelming support for his strategy. Please provide me a link more than listening to CNN or MSNBC!

At most he has an American people not understanding how this is happening again, people more in the wait and see mode.

If you would like to talk about his strategy start a different thread, I am curious to what or where do people think 2016 candidates will fall on this issue. It is not far away, as soon as the mid-terms are done it will be center stage and the air strikes are not going to run ISIS out of Iraq or Syria anytime soon.

You're right. The pundits seemed favorable in the immediate aftermath of the speech. A quick google search showed that "7 of 10 lack confidence" in the strategy. I sit corrected.

That doesn't change my stance though. The Republicans will automatically lambaste it even if it proves fruitful. The Democratic candidates will wait to see how it polls before staking out a stance.

While I agree with you generic statements by each, does this open the race up to either a more Hawkish or more Dove type of candidate? ie John Kerry or Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Admiral McCraven?

the party nominees will be the pick of the party bases and both party bases are delusional and ill informed and probably more distracted by pro football or america's favorite amateur exhibitionist/sing-croacker/general purpose idiot.

The decision as to grand strategy for getting ourselves further stuck in the Tarbaby middle east will be made, as in the past, by posturing idiots in DC who all attended Ivy League schools and hence are much more intelligent than all of us rubes here in flyover country.

The big question in my mind, or what is left of it, is whether the inaugural prayer to God to look favorably on our latest stupid endeavors will be delivered by Al Sharpton or John Hagee.

Am I being too cynical?: I don't see how that is possible anymore.

I feel your pain huis. I need to figure out a way to love some imperfect politician enough to support them. Distrusting or disliking just about everyone with significant political power is not working for me. Texas Republicans seem bent on appealing only to the right wing of the Republican part here and the Democrats have no power.
