Per Burnt Orange Nation.

Originally committed March 2013 at Soph. Day, first pledge of that class.
6' 3" 320 lb from Sherman.
Rated #40 OG nationally, #86 player in the state, #669 player in the country.

Told Rivals that Wickline told him "he doesn't know where my offer stands right now."

Auburn appears to be his lean now.

Horns still have 3 OL commits for the 2015 class.

Personally I like the honesty if this is true. Hate to lose a kid who wanted to be at Texas but if we have faith in Wickline and I think most of us are stoked at this hire it may be for the best. If Coach Wickline is not sure, he's not misleading the young man so that he has plenty of time to weigh his options and find the more suitable place to hopefully earn a degree while playing the Foozball.

I know the media loves "decommit" and all that that implies...but I'm sure sometimes the new staff may watch some film and actually evaluate a player that has been offered and not be so high on them...or not as high as the previous staff...I'm not saying that happened here, but you know it happens - a lot

^^^ It seems it did happen here. They wouldn't give a guy doubts about whether he would get a schol, unless they did something and had doubts on it. Especially as they have actually told a few other 2015 recruits that they are safe. So, this was after some kind of analysis by the new staff. Film or something else... It is early enough, so Garza has time to get offered by somebody else. No harm. Better to do these things early rather than to pull offers later when we find better players and it would look much worse.

I, too, am not bothered by this other than Patterson saying that current commits would have offers honored. I don't recall him being specific as to the 2014 or 2015 recruit classes. I may have misinterpreted his words but I took him to mean ALL existing football commits.

If the new staff does not feel the recruit is a good fit, it does no one any good to continue the relationship.

I looked back at the newspaper reports of Patterson's comments in December regarding UT honoring current scholarship offers. Some indicated he referred only to 2014 commitments while others indicated all existing commitments. I could not find a transcript of what was actually said.

So I officially retract my concern on Patterson's comment. I will assume he was referring to only the 2014 class commitiments.

I, Hornswoggler, approve this message.

I believe Patterson made those remarks in one of those impromptu interactions with reporters during the Alamo bowl. May even have been when he was shown on TV to be talking a to a few guys with microphones, in the stands. Anyway, I checked many news articles and the reports are all over the place on whether he said "2014" or not. As it was not out of any press release, nobody seems sure. A couple of articles out there seems to say that he said "2014 recruits" but others don't. AAS for instance said this - "Texas has 23 commits now for 2014. Patterson said that all offers from the previous coaches will be honored". Does that mean it applies to only 2014? Vague...

Either way, we should honor the 2014 offers from Mack, and make all attempts to honor the 2015 offers - and should let the players know early enough (like now) if any of the 2015 offers need to be re-evaluated. It seems Charlie is doing just that. It's fine.
