2015 Commits: Redshirt or Play?

Not sure if I should put this on the field or here but just curious ... Let me start by saying I have no clue and a very average to below average football IQ

So from those who have insight, who of the 2015 commits do you think make an immediate impact this fall?

I know spring ball hasn't happened and fall camp hasn't happened yet but I think it would be fun to speculate or just swag when we will be able to showcase our shiny new commits

Well since we lost a RB to graduation I think Chris Warren gets a look. I don't think we have any big backs to fill those shoes as physical as Chris Warren.

I'd like to see an updated depth chart. I'd do it but I'm at work.

All three of the RBs coming in are ready for the NCAA, but there might be a numbers thing. Foreman and Catalon from last year's recruiting class have a year of Coach Moorer behind them and are comparable talents. I expect Warren to play a major role this year because of his unique combination of size and speed. Johnson or Houston may choose to redshirt, but they are all-around athletes with potential to play special teams and be role players in the offense.

I think all of the LBs and DBs play next year. We lost a lot to graduation in those roles and the new guys appear to be really good. Maybe if there's a position change.

I think 2-3 wide receivers play next year, the ones best ready to compete when they come to school this summer. Newsome has the best chance because of his unique skill set and special teams potential.

Do you think Kirk Johnson ends up being a back/receiver option? He seems like a guy that's got a pretty flexible game, and from watching him on film, it looks like he's a guy we want on the field. Maybe a Daje Johnson type? (Hopefully one that will get more than three touches per game.)

I think Newsome is the incoming frosh with the Daje like wiggle and speed. In Kirk's film it looks to me like defenders can get to him, but unless they come with a load or in numbers, the don't stop him. Kirk is fast and does well in space, but I think his standout strengths at the next level are setting up and following his blockers and running through contact.

Don't forget that the first play at Notre dame is promised to Deandre Finessin McNeal

... He can't red-shirt if that is to happen!

Here is an excellent depth chart, if you need, that includes the new players too, from inside Texas.

That should help everybody to put in your guesses on who will play.

Looking at that chart, I'm sad to see I wasted a lot of high hopes on the 2012 and 2013 classes. Been a lot of attrition and I'm guessing Brown's staff and the recruiting services missed on some player evaluations. Several highly rated guys haven't played much or are gone.

Any time I want to go punch a wall, I pull up the old recruiting lists and go through the OL commitments. I forget the exact numbers, but I counted something like five OL commits in the past four or five classes that made contributions beyond being a stop-gap, below average starter.Five in five years. ARGGHHH making me mad all over again!!

Anyway, yeah Crockett I think there's plenty of opportunities to look back and say "what happened to these guys??"

Dionysus hope you mean good possibilities to play (especially Jefferson since he is only going to be around for 3 years unless he gets hurt).

"Any time I want to go punch a wall, I pull up the old recruiting lists and go through the OL commitments."

Sometimes I think watching 63-14 or the 1991 Cotton Bowl is actually preferable to looking at our current OL issues. It's mind-numbingly stupid how poorly our OL recruiting was handled from 2004-present. Mack and McWhorter are the worst culprits in the situation, but Searels didn't exactly stem the tide either. Talk about not getting your **** together to pull some trench help in here.

Our OL is probably about the same level as the bottom 10 teams in Division I FBS, and possibly outside the top 25 teams in Division I FCS. And it's not just a joke on paper either. When other teams laugh postgame about how unorganized and unathletic our OL is, it reminds me of middle school football.

Just listened to Chip Brown gush about Holton Hill. He said he is 6' 3"
For a CB, that's elite size. Chip said he had a lot of interceptions last year, go figure!

So I can't wait to see Mr. Hill shut down the best WR each week next year!
