Horns will be represented by Ariel Atkins and Brooke McCarty on the west team.

Didn't see any other incoming Big 12 players listed on the squads.

Texas had three signees on that 2005 team. Crystal Boyd was the other.

I had wondered how many there were during that year since Texas had the #1 recruiting class that I year (I think).

That #1 class had they panned out probably would have kept Coach Conradt still coaching for Texas. Arriaran was my favorite from that class.

Liked what Atkins had to say during a sideline interview; discussed restoring the Texas basketball legacy, and working very, very hard to do that.

Afterwards a different reporter mentioned how excited Coach Connie Clark is about Atkins and McCarty. What????????

That's great and all but Coach Clark needs to focus on softball. Still waiting for a National Championship as are others.

I just wanted to note that the guy coaching the west team was not doing a very good job down the stretch. Had Ariel's team lost I wouldve been furious. She was by far the best at creating her own shot and I was wondering how she could not be in the game. I think her and Brooke will make a dynamic backcourt duo.

I didn't see the game; but the media stories afterward didn't even mention Brook McCarty and just stated that Ariel scored 12 points. Other players got the accolades for Most Valuable, Highest Scoring, Most Assists, etc. How did our recruits look? From the brief media accounts, they weren't the biggest standouts.

ESPN story and video they talk about Ariel just over one minute into the video along with some highlights.

I don't remember if Brooke scored but she had some nice passes and good defensive plays. She and Ariel are bringing some very good speed, ball handling and passing to the 40. Remember the floater that Taylor of the men's team displayed this year? Ariel's is just as nice, maybe not from as far out but a good 10 feet in. She is going to give people problems with her crossover. It's wicked.

The commentators kept mentioning that some of the players had a college ready body. Ariel, imo, certainly looks that way. The shooting was off for a lot of the wings/guards from BTA for the West. The Irish got a really good player in Turner. Canada was outstanding as well. I was pretty happy with the way Ariel played in the game. I wish she & Brooke had played more, though. I don't know how much of that is just that they are coming to Texas.

Ariel has it all. I think she will start next season at either SG or SF. Has a great opportunity to be the high scorer next season, earn Big 12 freshman of the year, and even National freshman of the year. We have no one on the roster like her, and she can step in for Chassidy as long as she works hard and adjusts well to the college pace.

Brooke is tiny; she looked tiny compared to the other high school senior all-stars, so se will look even tinier against collegiate players. I was hoping she would be ultra-quick in order to make up for her lack of size (height / build), but I didn't see that last night. She is a good shooter from 3-point land, so that is a plus. She might be the smallest player to ever have suited up for Texas.

Thanks for the link to the Boneyard. The Connecticut fans were very impressed with Ariel, which is reassuring.

Mooooooo,
if Brooke is her stated 5-4, the following are smaller than her:
Julia Campbell (1975-76) and Eryn McMahan (1997-99), both listed at 5-2.

And matching her at 5-4:
Hattie Browning (1978-80), Tamra Cobbins (2002-06), Kriss Ethridge (1982-85), Lorene McClellan (1974-76), Patricia McKenna (1976-77, Alisha Nelson (1976-78) and, on the current roster, Krystle Henderson.

Brooke might be 5'4" in heels. I think it will take her a little time to adjust to the college game. She has very quick hands and being so low to the ground

, she is going to be able to poke the ball away from the dribbler. I don't think she'll score as much in the college game, but I think she is going to be an excellent point guard.
