2012 class remaining targets?

Not much seems to go on this recruiting board these days. I just checked on our current list of 16 and was wondering how many more we might take and what positions or players would likely be the most targeted?

Currently there are 16 verbals:
Offense - 6
Defense - 10

Looks to me like we could take another OL and another DB or 2. We did take 5 OL and 4 DB in 2011, but can always use another guy or 2 at those positions.

Can't see Mack wanting to go after any more LBs or DTs. We seem set at QB and RB. Only other possible needs I can see would be maybe 1 more WR and 1 more DE. For a then total class size of about 21.

1 - WR
1 - DE
2 - DB

Does that sound about right?

That will bring the 2012 class total to 8 on offense and 13 on defense. The 2011 class was more weighted to the offense so it would make sense for this class to continue to be weighted defensively.

There may be some attrition announcements in the near future and that could open the need for say... the DL.

It sounds like we've still got a lot of lines in the water on the OL, with Estelle, Peat, Theus, etc. all still showing interest.

Based on what I've read, and the visits lined up, it looks like the coaches still want:

2 OT
1 or 2 DB
1 WR
Maybe 1 DT
1 or 2 DE

Which means there HAS to be some attrition, or we'll be way over the 85 limit, barring any greyshirts of course.

Other than some rumors about one or two RB and a DL, there hasn't been a lot of noise about attrition. At least not on public sites.

Like above, there has also been speculation about WRs, TEs, and maybe a QB. But it's just been speculation on the various public websites (I don't do the pay site thing, so I don't know what they're talking about).

Over the summer it always seems we lose 3 or 4 to attrition. So who knows what our needs are.

We rarely lose one that was planning on meaningful playing time. Usually the attrition hinted at recruiting misses and the staff knew beforehand they needed to recruit that position strongly next time around. I'm not down on any player that leaves, nor do I think a recruiting miss or attrition means it was a mistake recruiting said player(s). Merely a fact that sometimes the stars don't line up for every talented 17-18 yr that earns a scholarship. Sometimes the timing wasn't right for the opportunity given and it's better to start a fresh opportunity with a new frame of mind

In the past I seem to remember these guys leaving in the spring to have time to go look at transferring to other schools. Can't remember too many guys leaving in the summer.

I agree hornpharmd, we find out in the spring and before the fall starts if any leave. The only thing that might happen on June 5th is academic issues, if any.

I don't know who can know about academic issues and such and when but yea I think if there is attrition it will be do to such and that pesky "academic progress" thing.

My nephew coaches at Lago Vista in North Austin. Last Monday, Alabama offered their DT (Donald hopkins) a scholarship. Soon after, UT called and told him they did not have a DT scholarship available but if one comes open they would like to sign him as well. FWIW.
