By position, 2010 wins more battles, but look at the complementary classes (one strong where the other is weak). Barring the unforseen (please lock down WM for good to maintain all of our 2011 defensive recruits), we are set for many years. Great time to be a horn fan folks

Good points. It may take a couple of years to really make a decision about the DB classes though. AJ White is already looking like a potential stud out there. And we really don't know about the other 3 yet.

The 2010 class looks a little better overall on paper.

2 amazing classes that should lead to some more victories over OU!

here's the 09, 10, 11 breakdown. to be honest, 2009 is not looking as strong as it did on signing day. Gilbert is the man here, and we'll surely get some great play out some of the rest (Walters and Okafor will be stars, Porter, Ashcraft, Matthews all very good...) but there's already been some attrition and some red flags on some of these guys.

QB
2009 Garret Gilbert 5 star
2010 Connor Wood 4 star, Case McCoy 3 star
2011 David Ash 4 star
Verdict: 2009 hands down

RB
2009 Chris Whaley 4 star (now H-Back)
2010 Traylon Shead 4 star DeMarco Cobbs 4 star
2011 Malcolm Brown 5 star
Verdict: 2011 superior (not sure if Cobbs will stay at RB).. Whaley instead of Michael in 2009 was incomprehensible

FB
2009 None
2010 None
2011 Joe Bergeron 3 star
Verdict: 2011 by default

WR
2009 Greg Timmons 4 star
2010 Mike Davis 4 star, Darius White 4 star, Chris Jones 4 star, John Harris 4 star
2011 Jaxon Shipley 4 star, Miles Onyegbule 3 star
Verdict: 2010 by far

OL
2009 Mason Walters 5 star, Garrett Porter 4 star, Thomas Ashcraft 4 star, Paden Kelley 3 star
2010 Trey Hopkins 4 star, Dom Espinosa 4 star
2011 Christian Westerman 4 star (probably 5 later), Garrett Greanlea 4 star, Sedrick Flowers 4 star, Josh Cochran 4 star, Taylor Doyle 3 star, Marcus Hutchins 3 star
Verdict: 2011 by far... 2009 was pretty darn good though.

TE
2009 Barrett Matthews 3 star, Trey Graham 3 star, Dominique Jones 3 star
2010 Darius Terrell 4 star
2011 MJ McFarland 4 star
Verdict: Push.. though 2009 may end up winning. just have a good feeling about Matthews.

DE
2009 Alex Okafor 5 star, Tevin Mims 4 star (? DT eventually), Kyle Kriegel 3 star (see Mims)
2010 Jackson Jeffcoat 5 star, Reggie Wilson 4 star
2011 Cedric Reed 4 star, Kendall Thompson 4 star
Verdict: 2010 by far, even if Rasco commits. Okafor is a stud though...

DT
2009 Calvin Howell 4 star, Derek Johnson 4 star (gone)
2010 Taylor Bible 4 star, Ashton Dorsey 4 star, Greg Daniels 4 star, DeAires Cotton 3 star
2011 Desmond Jackson 4 star, Quincy Russell 4 star
Verdict: 2010 barely, basically due to number of commits

LB
2009 Tariq Allen 4 star, Patrick Nkwopara 3 star
2010 Jordan Hicks 5 star, Tevin Jackson 4 star, Aaron Benson 4 star
2011 Steve Edmond 4 star (possible 5), Chet Moss 4 star
Verdict: 2010 by less than you might think, especially if you count Thompson as a LB.

DB
2009 Kenny Vaccaro 4 star, Marcus Davis 4 star (gone), Eryon Barnett 4 star
2010 Adrian Phillips 4 star, Carrington Byndom 4 star, Bryant Jackson 4 star, Adrian White 3 star
2011 Quandre Diggs 4 star, Sheroid Evans 4 star, Josh Turner 4 star, Mykkele Thompson 4 star, Leroy Scott 4 star
Verdict: 2011 superior.. 2009 is turning out to be really disappointing (hope Vaccaro can stay focused)

K/P
2009 None
2010 Will Russ 3 star
2011 None
Verdict: 2010 by default

You guys have named all the 2010 and 2011 players, so I'll just give an overview.

2010 - 2 Five stars, 16 Four stars, 6 Three stars for an average Rivals score of 3.92 per recruit. I think 3.92 was second in the country to USC.

2011 - 1 Five star, 16 Four stars. 6 Three stars for an average Rivals score of 3.78 per recruit.

The obvious difference in the two classes is the number of Five stars and high Four stars. 2010 had 4 6.0 and 6 5.9 Fours, whereas 2011 had 2 6.0 and 4 5.9 Fours.

IMO 2010 was a better class, but 2011 is a great and critical followup to 2010 with the OL and RB.

Wow 2009 was really solid too. Perhaps better at QB. Solid at DE, DT, OL, TE. I would actually put 2009 OL ahead of other 2 classes right now. But 2011 has potential to be better, we'll see.

Whaley may end up being a good H Back/fullback: We will have to wait and see. One thing that stands out with 2009 is that after a few years in the system, the emphasis on stars/hype declines and players have to produce. While this is obvious, we still always think of the incoming recruiting class as better than a class already in school. Only when the classes graduate is it possible to judge them accurately. With that said, all 3 classes are superb. Hopefully, next year we will have another great recruiting year so that we will be strong at all positions from a freshman to senior class. From the 3 classes though, it looks like we don't have any weaknesses or gaps at any position.

UT4EVR don't forget Westerman will almost certainly be a 5 star before it's over.. Edmond has a good chance... 3 5 stars would not be shabby for the reduced 5 star #s this year.
