Has anyone else noticed where the players are coming from ?
Desoto?
A Slocum lock
Garland?
Not UT
Sulpher Springs?
Stoops
Lufkin?
Slocum or LSU
Small schools esp. A ball?
Stoops or TCU, Tech, Baylor

We've wiffed on kids from those towns since I've followed recruiting back to the McWilliams days.

Is it the Mack recruiting machine, or any other theories?
 
I'm dating myself with the slocum mention, however the point remains that our difficulty in some of these towns and certain HS goes back 20+ years. We've been locked out by the likes of OU, at least 2 coaches at TAMU, and at least 2 coaches at LSU.
Our other achiles heal historically has been grades and overall quality of education within some HS. Either student athletes ccouldn't get into Texas or were intimidated by our academic requirements.

On the D side Muschamp is another explanation. And still another is the overall continuity of our staff. The majority of Mack's staff has been around for his entire tenure. This has helped with relationships with HS coaches and overall confidence when a player signs with Texas his position coach will be there.
 
16 & 17 year old recruits have no memory of the dark years of 80's and early 90's. They have grown up with Texas domination and aggy mediocrity.
 
I don't think the majority of the coaches that were here Mack's first year are still here. I know you have Greg Davis and maybe Duane Akina. I am not sure about Coach Akina. I suppose I could look it up, but why do that when someone else will.......

Cleve Bryant is not a coach anymore and then of course you have Mad Dog!!!
 
Winning the big one helped a ton, beating OU has helped, OU failing in the big games has helped and aggie falling off the cliff has put them behind Tech and Baylor.
