2009 Honda Accord Diesel

I've been reading on some auto sites about Honda offering their Clean Diesel technology in the '09 Accord in the form of the 2.2L i-CTDi Diesel.

I have been able to gather a little info about the car...does anyone else have more? I'm very curious.

The Euro Accord, which achieves 63 mpg, is lighter and has the same body as the American Acura TSX. MPG estimates for the U.S. version of the Accord are 52 mpg highway, 34 city, and 44 combined. It produces 140 hp and 250 pound-feet of torque. The TSX is also supposed to be getting this same engine as an option. Does that equate to 63 mpg for the American TSX?

For some reason the MPG ratings in Europe are quite higher than in the USA, which is counter-intuitive for me.

But anyway, it's about f***ing time we get some Japanese cars with diesel engines over here. I wonder what king of MPG a Fit or Yaris would get with a small diesel.

Any idea on price? I will be in the market for a new car in the coming year, and I would like it to be as fuel efficient as possible. This may be a good pick if the price is decent.

I can see it now, a Diesel PLug-In Hybrid, probably close to 70 mpg if you do a lot of stop and go city driving.

Look out for those electricity prices, stay with hybrids, don't go all-electric whatever you do.

what kind of number do you thiink we could expect for a larger family vehicle, say a 3400 pound sedan or van?

50,60,70? And of course, how much extra do you think we'll pay? $6000 minimum I would think?

All of this sounds very promising, I have been waiting for some time for Toyota or Honda to put out a diesel car, it is the way to go until they get the fuel cell tech fully functional and adding the the solar cell as a piece of puzzle only adds to my excitement. I know it's a ways off and it will be expensive at first but I cannot stand to send our money to terrorists.

sorry folks. I am for great gas milage as much or more so than the next guy, but diesel is NOT the answer.

great read to show why diesel is no viable alternative to petrol.

Honda's hybrid technology isn't as good as Toyota's. Their technology focuses on making a tiny gas motor that runs 100% of the time and a helper electric motor. Toyota is moving towards the engine creating electricity that is used to power the vehicle forward. The same way ships and trains move. Currently, it shuts off the gas motor when not needed, like in gridlock and stop and go traffic, and that saves tons of fuel.

I'm not so excited about diesel like I was 5 years ago, it's going to continue to rise in price faster than gas as there is a lot less capacity to create it.

of course current hybrid technology is also worse for the enviroment than gas engine technology......

We are not gonna run out of diesel as long as there is petroleum. Locomotives and trucks run on diesel. No diesel means no commerce.
