Does this team eerily remind you of that team or is it just me?
And it's not just because of Chauncey. Chauncey's the obvious remark and I know that's what it's going to be, but think about it.
They have another superstar, Carmelo Anthony, who is coming into his prime just as Rip Hamilton was coming into his prime when Detroit won it back in 04.
They're a much better defensive team this year than they have been. Detroit in 04, of course, was known for its defense when they smashed the aging Lakers in the finals.
And they're getting immense contributions from their role players, just like the Pistons got in 04. They have five guys averaging double figures in the playoffs (Melo, Chauncey, K-Mart, Nene and J.R. Smith).
Their bench has been spectacular in this series and has given them great energy (Kleiza had a huge Game 2), and their energy guys such as Andersen have shown up huge against L.A just like guys such as Mike James, Corliss Williamson, Lindsey Hunter for the Pistons in 04.
Consider the wildness factor too. Detroit that year had that wild element in Rasheed Wallace but if they were contained (which they were that year) they were gonna be awfully tough. I get that sense with Denver as well.
Also, keep in mind that Denver has a 16 game home win streak going into tonight, and that Kobe's teammates were shooting under 42 percent at halftime of tonight's game for this series.
And they've got a great coach. A guy who hasn't won a ring, but has been close.
Unless the refs help them, I think the Lakers won't make it out of the West finals, and the Nuggets may well steal the whole enchilada from not only them, but Lebron as well....
