2008 Electoral Map

And it would be really cool if they actually counted all of the votes this time!

I worked this to a 269-269 in '04.

The question I ask myself is, "Which of the states that Kerry won in 2004 WON'T go Democrat this year?" I can't come up with one.

The prob for the GOP is that 2004 EC result is damn near the high-water mark for the current GOP message. I can't see any way they can win more than 290 unless they broaden their appeal.

I think this 2008 base map is right by flipping IA and NM. Of those that are left, the GOP must run the table to win. Ain't gonna happen.

I don't know why, but I think if BO gets the nomination, he will win big. I drink the BO kool-aid, but I think places like Missouri and Ohio go to the dems this year. But it's not who votes but who COUNTS the votes that matters and these days that could mean a 3rd term for W.

I don't think Obama would win big, but he might keep the hard right and evangelical vote at home because they don't want to vote for McCain and don't have to fear Hillary.

I think Obama would win but not big. What he might do is keep the hard right/evangelical vote at home as they don't want to vote for McCain and don't have to fear Hillary being President.

McCain could win NJ and make Ohio somewhat more likely to be red. Hard to see a D win without both of those in their column.

So much yet to be played out....but fun to work with either way.

That link from earlier is really cool. You can go back and look at the electoral map for any election in history.

One thing it illustrates is the stranglehold the Republicans had on California for 50+ years. They went from owning the state to barely being competitive in barely more than a decade.
