Not a chelsea fan, but I'll play. Avram Grant didn't get a fair deal, and I dont think he should have been let go. I know nothing about Scolari, but knowing that a 2nd place finish in the EPL, and 2nd place finish in the CL got Grant fired before him has got to be intimidating. I agree that I would not be excited about Deco. As for Kaka'...who wouldnt be excited, and I have mixed feelings about Ronaldinho. I would be curious to hear your opinions on Drogba, as aside from CR7, and Ronaldinho, Drogba seems to have been the subject of the most transfer chatter this offseason.
the only thing i don't like about Drogba is you never know which one of him will show up.
I'm sure some Liverpool fans here will remember his first goal in the 2nd leg of CL at stamford bridge. Parry by the goalkeeper and drogba has to make a long run and kicks an absolute missle into the back of the net.
but on that play he didn't try very hard when he saw he wasn't getting the ball during the buildup. My brother in law is my witness and as the goalkeeper made the parry and the ball floated to the right I was screaming "WHERE ARE YOU DROGBA???" .... of course he scored so i looked silly, but whatever.
when he's on, he's amazing, but i wouldn't be upset if he were to make a move to italy.
on Grant - man, not sure what to say. He almost got Chelsea dug out of the big hole from the start of the year, and still i'm not sure he deserved to be sacked.
It could all implode, if the inmates (players) are running the asylum especially.
Still, i can't help but feel we just out talented a lot of clubs this past year, and while Scolari isn't my favorite, he knows his tactics so we should have a GREAT combination of the two.
Deco *sigh* is official and by the looks of it, Lampard is staying.
So as of right now, we look to be content playing a 4-6-0 formation
Seriously, I'm not sure who they have in mind as a striker, but Chelsea should do a great job controlling the midfield this year with Deco, Lampard and Ballack.
If Deco gets his younger legs back, the attack could be special....again, if we can find someone to play up top.
WWassup with Frank. 4 yrs/140 GBP a week seems pretty nice to stay with your home town club. 15 mil USD a year right (do football players get paid for 52 weeks a year or only during the season?)
surely 140/wk puts him in the top, top echelon of players.
I don't get it - Frank has always been Chelsea true blue.
He's 30 - will be 34-5 when the contract is over - will Inter pay more? Even so how much more? 150, 160?
Doesn't seem like enough to leave my home town club, uproot the family and move to Milan.
ahh, didn't know he was married - I thought he was just dating some Spanish girl. However I certainly understand wanting out of London after living there for 18 months, but I was more irritated by the expense (something he doesn't need to worry about)
So Chelsea would seem to start the year looking like this...
GK - Cech
Defense - Bosingwa, Carvalho, Terry, Cole/Ferreria
MF (wow) - Essien, Lampard, Deco, Ballack, J.Cole
F - Drogba
Now, not sure if Drogba will stay on or not, and not even sure of Joe Cole, although i think every english team needs ONE guy who wrecks havoc by applying pressure to the defenders on the outlet passes. I can tell you i'd rather have Cole than Wright Phillips, but i'm not the manager.
I'd much prefer Robinho (to high a price now) or E'to (sp?) in place of Drogba, but all the talk around him makes me think just that, it's all talk and he'll stay put.
If, and that's a BIG if, Drogba decides he wants it, and wants to play hard this season, he will have more chances with this midfield than he ever has in his life. I love the midfield, controlling and creative.
Squall, I'm glad to see there's another CFC supporter on here. Excellent start to the season. I think Bosingwa's ability to attack/cross on the right side is going to make the biggest difference in this season. Hope Anelka can keep up this pre/early season form...be nice to have some insurance behind Didier.
Spoke to soon on that one. To be honest, I'm glad we didn't overpay for Robinho...Joe Cole is playing very well right now for England and CFC and I'm sure he would have been the one left out. I honestly don't think there's a whole lot of difference between the two...but maybe I'm just biased.
Glad to see SWP have a nice debut with City...always liked the guy but he just wasn't going to get a chance with this midfield.
Obviously the most interesting thing to come out of all this is the City revolution. How long until they're competing for the EPL and/or CL titles?
oh well, he can score 1 goal every game as long as they lose 3-1
WE looked pretty good, need to keep the momentum going.
i'm loving liverpool's win over manu, we can count on liverpool faltering later, so if they can get a nice punch in on manu now, more power to the blues
the 'Pool are above chelsea on the Table, but i'll be damned if i let the 'Pool thread on Hornfans be above Chelsea!
VanPersie sux, and Scolari needs to not ***** about the offsides so much. it happened, if you didn't have Ballack playing so far back he was a defender, maybe we'd have had more offensive production!
