It's always interesting to look back and see how classes have fared. Take a look at ESPN's analysis of 2006-2008 Texas classes. What stands out about the names mentioned?

2006
3. Texas: A
Texas struck early to keep most of the top talent in their own state -- only two players come from outside of Texas. QB Jevan Snead will compete for the starting job and OLB Sergio Kindle is already on campus and can be impact player as a freshman.
(Sneed - transfer)

2007
3. Texas
Texas reloads once again, particularly in the offensive front with mammoth OT Tray Allen (Grand Prairie, Texas/South Grand Prairie). CBs Ben Wells (Beaumont, Texas/Ozen) and Curtis Brown (Gilmer, Texas) are lockdown guys on the perimeter. The Longhorns replaced QB John Brantley, who switched his commitment to Florida, by luring QB G.J. Kinne (Canron, Texas/Gilmer) away from Baylor. Watch out for unheralded RB Cody Johnson (Waller, Texas) and DE Sam Acho (Dallas/St. Marks).
(Kinne - transfer)

Same old class, different year -- and we mean that in a good way. Texas continues to grab who it wants, when it wants, particularly in Texas. This is one of those classes with no clear-cut guy separating himself from the rest of the pack. ESPN 150 receivers D.J. Grant (Austin, Texas/LBJ) and Dan Buckner (Allen, Texas) are special with Grant being the faster of the two. One of the things that separates a Texas recruiting class from many others is that the bottom half is always loaded with quality and sometimes even upper-echelon players that Texas is able to keep away from some of the up-and-comers in the conference. Keep an eye on S Blake Gideon (Leander, Texas) who was first-team All-State in 5A this year as being one of those gems.

(Buckner - recent transfer but contributed in 2009)
(Grant - injury)

I did a breakdown of what is left from those classes recently:

06 was a great class on signing day. But since it has had a ton of attrition. Some guys that played right away have now exhausted their eligibility (Kindle, Beasley, Houston, Alexander, Lawrence).

07 and 08 though have a ton of talent and much of that still remains. 2 five stars and 22 four stars still remain. Even without Irby or Wells you stil have 22 quality high ranked recruits left out of those 2 classes. Add that to the talent from the top five 2009 class and #2 overall 2010 class and you have a great combination of talented upperclassman and highly talented young kids coming in.

That's interesting they considered Grant to be faster than Buckner, but Grant was the one that got moved to TE.

In the end, while it's great to see those 4,5 star recruits in Feb, you get a 3 star (I thnk) player like Colt (2005) out of a 2A school and five years later he's the winningest QB in the history of college football.

That is what's great about it. No one can predict the sleepers in these classes but once in a while, a great one comes along.

Good point 86. What's to say Case McCoy won't beat out Connor Wood??? Snead came in with Colt and Snead was the guy to take over. We all saw how that turned out...

Wouldn't be surprised if Shead turned out to be great if he's really as big, strong and fast as listed. He really looked good at the Army AA game though there seemed to be a concerted effort to showcase that other kid.

Case McCoy will beat out Connor Wood. IMO Case has prepared against better talent during HS than Wood.

Plus.. Hes a friggin' McCoy....

Even though we played in the title game in 2010 our attrition really kicked our *** in 2 spots: safety and DT.
Dre Jones
Wilcoxon
Christian Scott
J Humphrey
Robert Joseph

And of course injuries at TE wiped out that position
