compressor went out on the EAS system. Land Rover of Austin wants to charge me $900 to replace. anyone want to do this cheaper?

I can't tell you about cheaper but I'd recommend a more reliable used vehicle. Range Rover + more than two years old = mucho dinero to your mechanic.

yeeep, hindsight is 20/20 bro. but that really doesn't help me out much right now. just looking to have the part replaced for less than $900.

OB, never, never, never, never take your Rover to a LR dealer; They are always exorbitantly higher than any reputable Rover mechanic. Since they rarely make money selling cars, they try to make it in their service. The compressor you need shouldn't be more than $500.00 so I'm not surprised LR Austin is charging double.

I'd recommend one of these guys. Both cheaper than the dealer and knowledgeable LR mechanics.

Motorcars Ltd. - reputable, pretty quick but inconveniently located on N. 183. (unless you live in Leander)
Olde English Import Service - up town central Austin on N. Lamar is reputable but will take their sweet time.

I would also highly NOT recommend Phoenix Motor Works - they will waste your time. Trust me.

One other thing to consider long term if you keep your Rover (I recommend you do or buy one more utilitarian at least) EAS has 4 different components that can fail independently of each other rendering it useless and costly to repair. Consider conversion to steel springs - they not only eliminate all 4 EAS problems, but also improve the ride and handling of your Range Rover. The conversion does not damage any part of the EAS and is completely reversible. It will save you anxiety and money down the road.

A set of good after market springs will run you $750.00 + Labor??

Good luck.
