2 things I would like to see

1. Term limits for Congressmen. They all need to know they are there for a limited time and (maybe) they will work together once in a while.

2. End of the electoral college. It is no longer a good idea in my opinion. Most votes in the country should win. It should not matter what state you live in.

I agree with Doc. The founding fathrs showed incredible wisdom and understanding of the difference between letting masses rule and having a representative democratic form of governement.

Boy
question. using your suggestion of majority mass vote there are several issues that would have been voted a different way including obamacare.
If you are for obamacare would it have been ok with you to let the mass popular vote vote it down?

One drawback to the electoral college is that candidates for President spend all their time and energy on only a few "battleground" states. We all know Romney is going to win Texas' electoral votes, and BO is going to win California's, etc.

Shouldn't a politician have to worry about margins in states like these? Shouldn't our input still count for something?

I'm not ready to join Murphy in saying the Electoral College has to go, but I do have reservations.

That is a good question. I think that public voting for each thing is a different thing. I am for Obamacare and Obama but if the public voted on every individual item we would be behind on social advances, as in segregation would have existed for many more years, etc. I also think it is quite possible that Romney win the popular vote but lose the electoral vote and I think that is wrong, even though my guy would benefit in that scenario.

thanks for a thoughful answer.

IMO we either have a republic or we don't.
Yes there will be plenty of times it does not go in a way with which i agree
but on the whole including the electioral college method I think our founding fathers showed infinite wisdom that stands us in good stead today

Electoral college ... would there be any benefit saying, that you get whatever percentage of votes from each state as it corresponds to the percentage of the popular vote in each state? that still keeps much of the power within each state.

So, for states like Texas, if the democrat wins 40% of the vote, they get 40% of the electoral college vote for that state. or in my full on retard state of Illinois, a 40% popular vote for a republican garners 40% of the state's electoral votes.

1. I think the feds should have a much higher say/stake in congressional redistricting than just letting the majority party of said state do whatever they want.

2. I want a national sales tax.

make election day a national voting holiday, have just a few large primaries, do not allow corporations to contribute to campaigns, get rid of PACS. for senate go from 6 years to a 4 year term.

Pharm
those are sound changes I generally agree with
when you say ban corps from running ads do you also include uinions?

If you are going to keep corporations from donating, then you must also ban unions and PACs. And foreign citizens. Individuals only with a limit. And you cannot allow unions to force their members to donate.

People no longer quoting/citing Dick Morris, Karl Rove, George Will, Peggy Noonan, etc. What a bunch of hack gasbags.
