Tommy Mason-Griffin for Madison squares up against Hightower, and Jamaal Fenton for Chavez takes on Dulles. First tip off at 6pm (gotta head out pretty quick). Second tip off at 8pm.
I originally said it was Jamaal Branch, but he plays for Atascocita, which was already eliminated. Instead, I saw Jamaal Fenton, who plays for Cesar Chavez.
Except I didn't, because he was saddled with foul trouble all game long.
Yes, Region III semi-finals. Madison won the first go around, in a game Hightower should've won, but simply didn't play to their strengths or their potential. Tommy Mason-Griffin didn't have one of his monster games, but he was definitely the difference. 71-65 or something like that was the final score.
I left in the middle of the 4th quarter in the Dulles-Chavez matchup. Dulles took them apart with their backdoor cuts and transition game. Chavez scored 26 in the third quarter after only tallying 7 in the first half, but they were down by 20 with 4 minutes to go when I departed.
Dulles plays Madison at 1pm at the Campbell Center. I'll be at BW3s watching college basketball, so I won't be able to attend that one. However, it's going to take a big time effort by Tommy Mason-Griffin, IMO, for them to come out on top. Dulles has to be the shortest team remaining in the 5A playoffs, but they sure do play the game the right way. I just don't see Madison being able to contain them on defense, but we'll see.
The winner of Dulles-Madison goes to the state tournament in Austin.
Oh, it was also reported that Ducanville lost, who would have been the odds on favorite to win the title this year. I believe it was Willie Warren's North Crowley that earned the victory, which is a really huge deal.
