Hookem.com is reporting that San Antonio Brennan DE Derick Roberson has committed tonight. Roberson spoke with the Hookem staff earlier and confirmed that he has indeed committed.

Well, two things here. First, I thought Mack's policy was to wait till after signing day to start (officially) on the next class. When did that change? And two, isnt he a little light in the britches for a D-end? Is he a candidate to be moved to LB? Just askin....

By the way, most of these recruits look like grown men already.
 
So the theory that part of the reason for our last couple of years was based upon early commits not developiong as projected (early offer assumes player will continue on same upward trend) or missing out on late bloomers is out the window?
 
I like it when Mack gets pissed off...he makes necessary changes.

The move to offering sophomores was pushed on Mack by the out-of-state schools recruiting Texas' best sophomore talent, and by agricultural opening up Texas to the SEC vultures.

Mack realized that if he stuck to his guns of not offering until junior days, UT would consistently be recruiting with one arm tied behind its' back. Props to him for being flexible enough to change. The new policy comes with some risks, but if the coaching staff does due diligence in evaluations, the risks are significantly reduced.
