2 five stars?

Hicks and Jeffcoat would be two five stars. Have we ever had two five stars in the same class?

Simms, Redding?

Orakpo, and ?

Also, if we get both Hicks and Jeffcoat, is this the best Texas class ever? It certianly is one of the biggest.

Going by Rivals, we had three last year, two in 2007 and 2006, and six in 2002.

Gilbert, Okafor, Walters last year. Last year's class followed by this one, will arguably be the best back to back ever.

so, if things work out, when Gilbert is a Junior, we will have 5 stars at 5 of the 22 starters, but then you get into issues of staying in school, so you can't project for senior years.

Anyway, 5 of 22 ought to be enough, depending upon luck, etc. What is a good comparison? USC in '05, were they more than half 5 star players?

Orangecat, if memory serves Orakpo was a small 210 pound unheralded linebacker. I don't think he was a 5 star or even 4. It was after he got to Texas he found the weight room.

Maybe you're thinking Okafor?

I thought the 2002 class had 6 5 stars, although I might have that wrong. I think that Rivals had a slightly more open system for awarding stars then.

I think Orakpo was a 4 star, but again, I might have that wrong, too.

I think the Simms/Redding class had 28 guys. In the modern era, that might be the record. I think it is between this class and the 2002 class for best ever (of the modern era).

I assume we are talking about Rivals? Orakpo was a 4 star in 2004.

In 2002 Rivals gave out more 5 star ratings (38) than in recent years. We had six although one never enrolled (M. Johnson), one went ineligible after one year (E. McCollough) and another never really contributed because of injuries (B. Pickryl). Vince, Rod Wright and Blalock were the other three.

In 2003/2004 Rivals had 25 five stars each year and we had one in each class (Hills/Okam). We had no five stars in 2005 out of 28 and two in the 2006 class of 28 (Kindle/E.Jones.). In 2007 we had two 5 stars out of 29 (Curtis Brown/Tray Allen), none in 2008 out of 30 and as mentioned three last year. (Okafor, Gilbert Walters).
