2/11 Bracketology....

Thanks as always, Husker!

Man, is Lunardi stubborn about Drake, especially after the mock selection exercise last week, but whatever.

It's all in UT's hands for that 2 seed with KU and A&M at home. They have to get at least one of those. Another solid road win, like Baylor, obviously helps a ton. Like Bob said, 6-2 means two seed with little doubt, and in the shorter term if the Horns can go 2-1 in these next three they are in solid shape for no worse than a 3 seed even with a future bad loss. Xavier and Drake can't improve their seeding because there are no top teams left on their schedules. Stanford is a team to start cheering against. If they sweep the two roadies in Arizona this week, they should probably grab a 2. Notre Dame will probably lose at UConn Wednesday.

I know Lunardi's actual matchups shouldn't be analyzed, but it would be fun to hear a cheer of "LET'S GO PEAY!" in the first round.

Well, I don't think we are playing much like a #2 or #3 seed right now, but I'd agree that it is within our grasp. 6-2 down the stretch might do it.

As long as we are in Houston, I don't think #2 or #3 really makes that much difference. Actually, we might find a friendly crowd in Anaheim then we would in Little Rock.

nah, they'll at least beat U of A. U of A is a soft team and is without Lute.

Stanford/ASU, on the other hand....

only aggies would think that one win, head to head, makes them a better team than someone else. Just doesn't work that way at the college level.

Bob in Houston - Thanks for the post. I laughed out load.

That said. I think the Aggies have been making a good case for themselves. While they don't have the same quality wins, they record is within a game of us - both overall and in conference. More importantly, they've won their last 5 games including a blowout of the #12 ranked Horns. Certainly, a team on the rise, rather than the fall.

If Aggies beat OKSt at home next Sat, it'll set up for another Really Big Monday, next week.

Aggie logic is confusing. A&M beat Texas, but Texas beat Baylor at home, a team that won at A&M. But A&M beat OU, a team that won in Waco. But OU lost at Colorado, and the Buffs are only one win behind OU in the Big XII standings. OU is a 9 seed in his bracket, so shouldn't Colorado be in the tourney?!?!?!

Silly Aggies.

Here was something that I saw that really confused me (I guess I should direct a question at Lunardi about this):

Vanderbilt (20-4) as a 10 seed and Xavier (20-4) as a 3 seed. I know that it is more than just records, etc. and that Vandy has not played great lately. However, Vandy's 4 losses were @ Florida, @ Tennessee, @ Ole Miss, and @ Kentucky. With the way those teams are playing, the only one that might be a "bad loss" is Ole Miss. Though they can be pretty good at times. Xavier's 4 losses were @ Miami (OH), @ Arizona State, vs. Tennessee, and @ Temple. I would consider 2 of those "bad losses."

Xavier does have some good wins, but did not play well this week at all and won 2 close home games. Vandy moved down to a 10 seed after winning 2 road games this week.

I just thought that this was odd. I would not want to be a 7 seed who had to play Vanderbilt in the first round or be a 2 seed who may have to play them in the second round.

I also agree that we are not playing like a 2 seed right now - not by a long shot. Hopefully our play tonight will make me reconsider.

The comparison is between Vandy and Xavier, not what I think. All three of those rankings have X way ahead.

X beat KSU and IU. Vandy beat USA and UMass. If you're looking at why one is a three and the other is a 10, that's where you start. X played Tennessee tougher, and we'll get to see how Vandy does against them at home.
