1st Time to Vegas

I read most of the Las Vegas threads and had a few questions I could shore up in one thread. We are going in October to see Elton John and Circue du Soleil but I am not sure which one. We are there for 3 days and wanted to know what casinos do you guys prefer?

Alas, we're do we eat? I have read anything from Delmonico's, N9NE, this and that..etc etc. Any opinions? Can't wait to have some fun!

Where to stay and what to eat? You need to be specific on what you are looking for before anyone can give you a recommendation. Are you young? Old? Looking for clubs? whores? What type of gambling? etc

I'm still young but married so no whores. I'd love to play a little poker, I saw that they have tournaments everyday around lunch time for $60 or so. I know I'd be playing with some donks but what the hell. My wife will want to hit the slots.

I have two nights planned and was looking for a nice dinner the third evening. I am easy to please and would just love some advice. During the day I figure I'd gamble but probably get tired of that at some point and check some things out. I am staying at Caesars.

Dinner..my wife is harder to please on that scene, I just want to have a nice dinner somewhere. Somewhere around $150-200 for the both of us. Thanks.

If you are planning on hitting a C du S show, it begins and ends with "O". It will blow your mind. Its at the Bellagio.

Il Mulino for great Italian food .. in the Forum Shops at Caesers...offshoot of the NY restaurant...

Just down the hall from Il Mulino... Sushi Roku... great Asian food.

Spas at Mandalay Bay and Canyon Ranch Spa at the Venetian are pretty good.

So many other places to eat.. things to do.

As for poker, it's pretty easy to find a $60 or $100 tourney during mid-day, but those can be frustrating too. I played a couple at TI when I was there last, and the problem is that they allow re-buys for the first hour. You keep knocking people out and then they buy right back in, I saw some guys go all-in 4-5 times before they finally hit something and ended up with a big stack. Personally, I prefer to play NL cash games in the poker rooms. My favorite rooms were at the Mirage and Venetian, where you can buy in anywhere from $100 on up. I think the Mirage has a $1/$2 game for $100-200 buy-in, and the Venetian has the same with $300 max buy-in.

And if you've never played blackjack, I would STRONGLY recommend you play that at some point. The odds are stacked against you, but not as much as a lot of other casino games, and blackjack is a ton of fun. Your wife could probably get into it too, mine did and she isn't much of a gambler even.

Splurge dinner out that you can only get in Vegas - Picasso at Bellagio. Great food, great art on the walls and the cool fountain show on the patio for pre or post-dinner drinks. A little above your stated price range, but worth it.

Wild club scene that gives you that "only in Vegas" feel - Tao

Shows - I've only seen Love and Jersey Boys. Highly recommend Jersey Boys, although Love was visually interesting and had cool Beatles music. Jersey Boys was fantastic and I don't consider myself a muscial fan.

Restaurant I've enjoyed - Sushi Roku in Caesar's Forum Shops for good sushi/Asian and a cool Strip view.

Restaurants that didn't do much for me - CarneVino, Mario Batali's steakhouse in Palazzo, and the upscale Mexican place out of New York, Dos Caminos, also in Palazzo.

Spa - My wife and her friend highly recommended Qua at Caesars. It's very new, lots of cool features and my wife enjoyed her treatments. Pricey.

My first trip to Vegas we stayed at Caesars as well, and I think it's an ideal location for your first trip. Have fun!

for lunch/brunch- i strongly recommend the buffet at the Wynn. I love food and this has to be one of the greatest buffets in he world.

For Poker:

If you are staying at CP just cross the street to Flamingo and the Imperial Palace. They have great, cheap, poker tournaments in the early morning and afternoons.

The pool scene at Caeser's is great, don't for get your suit.

The steak I had at Delmonico's was superb (The Venetian)

Go have a drink at Mix on top of the Mandalay Bay.

Definitely going to go to O. Probably going to Burke's restaurant the other night. Anyone heard anything on the restaurant N9NE? Had a friend return and said it was amazing.

if you want to go to N9ne, jsut go to the one in dallas.

burke/picasso are places that arent really duplicated a lot of other places.

also, for breakfast/brunch, hit up Bouchon at Venetian.

It is Thomas keller's place and you can get an amazing steak frittes at 9 a.m., which kicks all kinds of ***.
