1st half vs. Texas State

May have been the worst half I have ever seen a Rick Barnes team play.

Free throw shooting..... this is unaccecptable.
Missed lay-ups.... ridiculous.
Defense..... hello?

I'm going to chalk this up right now to a hangover from the New York trip.... but this team looks awful.

No doubt most of it is due to the hangover. We can't get any worst than this. I hope.

Missed free throws have always been a problem. It's contageous lately. I usually hope we make both shots. Now I just hope we make at least one. It's getting bad.

I was really hoping this would a "Put the game on, get some stuff done around the house, poke my head around the corner everyonce in a while to see how much we were winning by" thing today.

I could tell early on in the season that this was going to be a painful team to watch at times. This many 50% FT shooters in the rotation is ridiculous.

"win by 20" hardly...this is not a very good team. barnes get better get their attention during the stretch of upcoming games. today was/is horrible.

OK it wasn't quite 20pts but it sure beats an upset. I'll take the W. Hopefully Barnes can leverage this to the get the team refocused.

I wouldn't say they are "not a very good team." That is a little harsh. This was a flat team that came out against an uninspiring opponent after coming back from The Big City. Cut them a break. The team definitely has issues (FT shooting, etc.), but they are undoubtedly a good team.

I posted after the second game that I think this team is going to be a 1 seed. Still do. They are going to have like 3 or 4 losses going into the conference tourney is all, with some decent scalps on the wall.

That said, this team is going to lose earlier then it should in the NCAA tourney if they don't do something about their horrible free throw shooting and stagnation at times on offense.

That being said- some are reading waaaaaaay too much into a lackluster effort at noon, during finals, against a team nobody gives a crap about.

I'm betting they don't look this bad against MSU or Wiscy.

Even though Texas played ragged, there were two good things that happened.

1) We one
2) Dexter Pittman had the best game of his career and that bodes very well for UT's future. He played like a NBA lottery pick.

and
#3 we won!

Pittman's contribution with 15 minutes playing time is extraordinary. His 7 for 7 at the line is impressive considering how poorly this team shoots FTs.
Odd stat line for Mason who can't buy a bucket, but 9 assists with not a single TO.

RB after the game:

"I don’t know what emotional letdowns mean, guys that get it get it. So as a group, I’m not sure we had an emotional down. I just think some guys weren’t ready to get it down and I let them know that after the game.
"

I would not like to have been on the receiving end of that conversation.

well, if we had to play like that...today was the day to do it.

I can't believe the free throws, but, that has obviously been covered.

I was at the game yesterday and the team did look sluggish. However I will give them credit in that they are all still going through finals right now and they did just return from New York. On Friday they also had a 2 hour practice and a 4 hour study hall. Granted, this is no excuse for missing so many free throws, you must cut the team a little slack. Looking forward to a better showing against Texas Southern though

I was at the game, and the team looked about like the crowd. I migrated down to mid court lower level. I think I stood up twice during the whole game. Everybody - the team, the crowd, and the coaches - seemed to be decompressing a bit on this one. No big deal though. We won by almost 10 points.

I'm not sure they won't practice through TSU II as well.

I didn't get to see the game live, but I'm working through the DVR. Bobcats played well. Texas shot poorly. They can't all be pearls.
