1st Baseman trade rumors

"The Rangers have joined the fray for Prince Fielder. The White Sox and Angels are also interested in acquiring the Brewers' slugging first baseman, who isn't a free agent until after next year and is batting .262 with 24 home runs and 46 RBIs this season. The Brewers, who may still keep Fielder, are seeking young pitching and Texas has an excellent stash of prospects. The Rangers have also checked out Florida's Jorge Cantu, Baltimore's Ty Wigginton and the Cubs' Derrek Lee for their first base needs."

Not sure how this sits with me. Really hate giving up young pitching, and Davis has a great glove, but we could use the extra bat.

Do we really need another left handed bat? A guy with limited mobility in the infield playing first? Plus he's going to cost us a fortune if we make this a permanent deal. I'd rather keep the pitching prospects....but JD has done a great job dealing the past 2 yrs, if he pushes the button then that's the way baseball go...

The 1b we just traded is scorching it up for Seattle.... hitting .164 with a .469 OPS (almost 100 pts lower than Davis). What we have isn't a B+ bat but it sure could be worse.

I'm having bad dreams of trying to hold a 1 run lead in the ALCS and Fielder not getting to a ground ball, losing the game. "Pitching and defense". It's how we got this 8 game lead to begin with.

IMHO it wouldn't be worth giving up our top tier pitchers for a season or so of Fielder. Boras is his agent and he will go to top bidder after next season. I'd be happy with Cantu or Wigginton, and much less cost prohibitive.

This guy is just a fat pig who cant play. Would be a disaster.

Hell, why not pick up Derrick Lee on the cheap. Had 100 RBI last year, Gold Glove caliber, and has a ring.

Cubs would be happy to get anything at this point.
