On LHN. Love him or hate him, the halftime analysis that President Nixon gave was pretty impressive. I still get chills watching this game even though I was only born in March of that year. The post game with Nixon is very cool, too.

I was at that game.
It looks insane just on TV. I can imagine it was hostile. I was in Little Rock back in around the summer of 2008, I think. Texas played them that year. Won 52-10.

Anyway, I'm in the hotel lobby one morning wearing a Texas shirt. A sweet old lady walks by and in a Wizard of Oz Wicked Witch of The West voice says "That's an UGLY shirt" with a scowl on her face.

Sure thing, grandma, move along.

So, that many years removed, that lady still had the hatred even though another thread says we had a 45-14 series lead at the time, I think. Something like that. Delusional fans thinking it was a real rivalry and being bitter that long after running to the SEC.

Pathetic.

Oh, the stories you hear about how bad they were are absolutely true.

The ironic thing is my dad had 2 degrees from Texas but got his MD at Arkansas. He went there because his commanding officer in World War II was the chairman of the biochemistry department at Arkansas. Dad had a masters in microbiology from Texas, and his CO said that he would get him on the faculty to teach micro to the nursing and medical laboratory technology students to pay his tuition in medical school.

But Daddy never once rooted for Arkansas.

Ever.

We played them at home in 2008 I believe but on the road in 2004. Recall we lost to them at home in 2003 or so.

Some think Nixon had the highest IQ of all the presidents.

Yes, 2003 was one of the most maddening defeats under mack Brown. That was the infamous Houston Nutt job doing the Horns down.

Herman level asshattery.

I always remember the sheer emotion of the clarinet player after the 4th down Peschel play. I never remember noticing until now that after the point after on the TD that they are showing the band. One of the girls is jumping up and down with excitement. Another girl behind her almost angrily points to the ground telling her that her hat fell off. The jumping girl immediately is deflated and almost rolls her eyes as she reaches for the hat.

What a PITA the one chick was.

I've posted this before: I was 18 and in submarine sonar school; watching with a large crowd. EVERYBODY in the room was for Arkansas, including another Texan, who was an ag fan. They razzed me to no end until it was 15-14, then started again when Ark was on the move. I loved their groans when Ark was intercepted.

Drove from Austin to Fayet in 81. It was my senior year. Was the worst Texas game I ever went to. We had just beaten OU badly and Arky had lost to the Frogs. Made the cover of Sports Illustrated and ranked #1 and we fumble the 1st snap and got **** canned the entire day. Left in the 3rd quarter for the long drive home after sleeping in the car the night before.

As to 69, I've watched that game a dozen or more times. How we won is inexplainable. We never could stop Dikus. Even after going up 15-14 they drive right down the field and then throw the pick in the left corner end zone. It was nuts to make that mistake that late, but I'll take it. Changed the fortunes of Arky and I don't think they ever recovered.

That game was awful. Just saying.

I have always imagined you as a 38 year old Horn Fan. Now I have to meet you in person.
Well, I thank you very much! I’ll be truthful: I’m a 64-year-old Longhorn fan. I’ve been a Longhorn fan literally all my life. And I’ve got the gray hair to prove it.

I think the ‘81 game was the day that coach Glen Swenson died in a car accident. I always wondered if that had any affect on the team.

Besides the 69 game, my favorite was 1987, when Bret Stafford completed TD pass to Tony Jones on the last play of the game. The look on Ken Hatfield’s face is priceless!

DKR told the team to keep their helmet on at all times on the field during that game. Interview later Cotton Spreyer said at first he was puzzled why, but believe he said he got hit in the helmet by a hog fan thrown whiskey bottle and figured it out.

I attended the '81 beat down of ou, then the joy of being ranked #1 the following week - it was short lived....

Trip to FayetteNam the following week.... it all came crashing terribly down. Just aweful.

The '69 game my dad was on a tiny pacific island doing defense work. No phone. No TV. No motor car. Not a single luxury.

My mom and I, along with my brother who never watched sports, gathered around and experienced the game together. Whooping, hollering, groaning, screaming, etc. It was fun, but very sad that Dad wasn't with us.

Primitive as can be.

The 1999 season Cotton Bowl where Major blew out his knee (the first time) was the horns-down Nuttsack incident. 2003 should have been the revenge but since none of the same players were there it was really just that with the fans. Despite a good game by Chance Mock, we couldn't run the ball even with a junior Cedric Benson, fumbled 3 times, and gave up a 50+ yard pass on 3rd and 35 when we lined up with no DB on one side of the field somehow.

Then 2004 we went into their building and beat them (the year one of their dudes tried to injure VY by grabbing his ankle and twisting it), and in 2008 with Colt, Shipley, Cosby, and co, we blew them out of the water. We were supposed to go back to their place in 2009 but they bailed on us - I think for some reason this game just now is the makeup game for that.

2008 Horns blew up Arky 52-10 and it was not that close.

Piggie was so fearful of the Horns coming to FayetteNam in 2009 and giving them another humiliating beatdown that they canceled the game... at the time, piggie had some lame excuse why they canceled.... one that I cannot remember now.

So, 2021 game is indeed the makeup for that scheduled home game in 2009 that was never played.

To accommodate a&m and their series at the time.
