I used the website in the OP's post to browse UT's record from 1918 up to the 1960s, which is when I started following Texas football as a ten year old.
I've got to say that I had forgotten (or suppressed) how , I hate to say it, mediocre the Longhorns were much of the time during that 40-plus year period. We had a few legitimate chances to win National Championships, 1941 and 1950 come to mind, but we always stubbed our toe.
In 1950, we lost 13-14 to eventual champion OU. I think an untimely fumble cost us that game.
In '41 we blew through the first six games and soared to No. 1 in the polls, only to tie Baylor and lose to the TCU cockroaches.
Anyway, the success we enjoyed under DKR and Mack Brown were very much the exceptions, not the norms. This last 7 years is not unlike other eras of UT football. If we get back to the top, enjoy it for all it's worth.
