His father was too small to play LB much less MLB. For those too young to know, we played Pitt in the Bluebonnet Bowl. They had Ironhead Hayward, a 270 pound RB. Much was made that Texas too small MLB was going to get killed by this massive RB. The eastern media would have made you think Britt was 3'8" and 75 pounds.
I was concerned, but we got the ball and Brett Stafford hit Tony Jones (IIRC) on a long pass on our first offensive play.
Brett hit Hayward so often, I think he left with a Longhorn decal on his chest. I don't recall Hayward ever falling forward. Brett beat the ever living crap out of him.
The "All Madden Team" revealed on Thanksgiving Day honored offensive and defensive players for exception play and toughness. Brett Hager was the first special teams player (not kicker or return guy) to be chosen for that honor. I remember Madden making a big buildup of Brett and the fact he was the first to be so honored. I believe that was his rookie season and he was chosen for the Pro Bowl.
