if you're worried about that aspect of the plot, i'm surprised you like the movie. it's one of the less questionable plot points.

a few things make it plausible--
1. 15k for a player without a set schedule? Mike doesn't exactly have games just rolling his way. 5 days ticks down pretty quick, esp. if you have a bad day.
2. the worm factor. Could mike do this on his own, under good circumstances (i.e. no deadline= no pressing)? sure. but he's got worm around, throwing him off his game. worm is like having mac's stepson on the sideline. for most of the time he'll just play his part, but every once in a while...


you make a good point about worm and the nine k, though.
