12 years ago today ....

I was there as well. Went by myself. I won't say how much I paid for a single ticket, but I apparently paid for the remaining 3 members of that family's whole trip to Pasadena. One of the greatest decisions of my life, had many friends say, no way, too much money, etc. No cell reception at the stadium, kinda like the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. As I was walking back to my rental car in the parking lot, my phone was lighting up like crazy. "(worth)Twice the money, man, TWICE the money!!!" "You lucky SOB!" "I love you!" and, of course "Wish I was there" and "I shoulda gone with you"....there's other moments, but it ranks high on any bucket list items I have in my life......

My brother (UT grad) mother-in-law paid for 4 of us to go to 2004 Rose Bowl vs. Michigan. Me, my bother, one of his sons and one of my sons attended. It was epic!

So in late 2005, she offered again to pay for 4 of us to attend the 2006 RB vs. USC. My moronic brother declined. He told me about her offer AFTER the game... I threatened to kill him for not accepting her offer.

I think we all here agree the term "justifiable homicide" could be thrown around
a bit....

I just went to the Rose Bowl on Monday (long story). Quite a venue and the Rose Parade was great. It would have been better to see a team I loved, but as a relatively dispassionate observer (I always root for the Big 12 rep in any bowl, but I don't shed tears over any OU loss) it was quite a game.

I was there for Michigan in January of 05 and USC in January of 06. Best two games and overall experiences at a sporting event of my life. I couldn't make it to the Bama game in Jan 2010 and to this day feel guilty about that.

People forget USC had won 30-something in a row and had 2 Heisman winners in the same backfield. ESPN crowned them the greatest of all time. We weren't that far removed from those OU blowouts, so I was only cautiously optimistic. When we won, it was the single most shining moment in over 40 years watching the Horns.
