True. Best part about this is that this kid is a STUD!! He had offers from LSU and SC and obviously would have landed more. OU had Bobby Jack Wright hot on his tails as well. I think several had chocked him up as a Texas commit since his brother will be here in the fall.

It's a good day when a 4 start OLB/ATH commits as a grey shirt. Ahhh the power of brotherly love.

So true. He really must have wanted to be a Horn. He's taking one for the team because scholarships are tight this year and he's going to delay his enrollment until 2013. Gotta love kids like that.

Couldn't resist going to Texags to read the latest misery. The following link is one of the funniest I've ever read. Here's how it goes if you don't want to actually click.

1) Starts with Deoundrei Davis and how Aggy wants him.
2) Davis commits to Texas; Aggy never wanted him.
3) Now that Davis has committed, Aggy can get Hughes.
4) Hughes accepts Greyshirt offer.
5) Aggy didn't want him and Mack is lying to him to get him to accept a greyshirt.

Awesome stuff.

He'll count towards next year's class meaning the small # of schollies we have for next February's class will not be affected by his offer.

He must love Texas. Chances are that if attrition rears its head sufficiently, he can come in with the rest of this class.

Another 6'4", 4-star recruit commits to TX?

Just kidding! This is awesome and speaks wonders about the University and the coaching staff. Good job to Mack & crew!
Welcome to the 40 young man!

Being a greyshirt means that Hughes can either enroll in the fall of 2013 as a non-scholarship player and be put on scholarship in the spring, or enroll in the spring of 2014 on full scholarship.

Welcome to Texas Naashon.

Mack is a recruiting genius. I don't know, how he can convinced a four star player who has an offer from LSU, SC, come and enroll without a scholarship? It's beyond my imagination.

The young man seems mature beyond his years to make this kind of decision. I suspect he will be a real team leader when he gets here.

I like that instead of offering the kid now, only to pull the schollie later on, Mack was straight up with him and told him he was a great player at a position we could not afford to stock up on in this class. I feel like he will end up joining the 2013 class. That's a long time from now, and a lot will happen . I have a feeling this will work out good for both sides.

Worst case scenario he enters Jan 2014 on scholarship. Best case scenario, we end up with a scholarship for this kid to enter in 2013. Kudos to the kid for being willing to wait for what he wants.

Let's compare:

Mack Brown offers a scholarship and tells the recruit up front that he is being offered a gray shirt, which means he won't be able to practice with the team for nearly 2 years. Naashon accepts.

Nick Saban offers a recruit a full scholarship, the recruit gets hurt during his Sr year, and Satan changes the offer to a gray shirt. This happened twice, right?

He could wind up as #11. Right now he is #1 in the class of 2014. A kid with talent and a great attitude who wants to be a Horn.
