11-12 Hoops Roster up

Wow, that's a lot of youth. The "veterans" are less accomplished as a group than any returning squad in recent memory. Barnes has his work cut out for him. I think we'll be somewhere between .500 and the NCAA bubble.

Justin Mason, Matt Hill, Harrison Smith. 2006/2007 Roster

Good comparison. Abrams and Atchley were returning sophomores, along with Winder (Sr.), so I guess that's about the same as this group. However, there were some amazing freshmen in that class. The 2011 crop could be pretty good & still fall considerably short of the 2006 class.

Thanks for helping my aging memory, I guess I was just trying to hope for the best. That was one of my favorite teams, no expecations!!!

I think that's why I'm looking forward to this season a lot more than the previous two. No one cares if we lose a ton of games. And winning will be icing on the cake.

Our forwards are going to have some growing pains. I'm thinking we actually go with a 4-guard lineup for some teams.

Four guard lineup anyone? This has to be the shortest Texas team since the Abe Lemons era. Well, I guess the BMW team was short on physical stature too, but that team had quite a bit of experience.

I know Durant had some accolades coming into that season, I thought DJ did too?

Who on this team has any accolades and what is the skinny on the kid?

that team had 4 players go to the NBA. 1 is a superstar (durant). 1 is a starting PG (DJ Augustin). 2 are backups (pittman, james) and it's too early to tell how their careers will pan out because of injuries during their rookie years.

we will be very lucky to even come close to duplicating that kid of success. how often does a kevin durant come along? maybe myck kabongo can be as good as DJ Augustin, but i just don't see that difference maker on the wing like Durant (jordan hamilton was becoming one but was too inconsistent).

skc

James with the Nets, and Pittman with the Heat IIRC. James actually saw playing time. I never remember Pittman getting any.

TT, Joseph, & Hamilton woulda been nice to see on that roster. IF, if, if seems to always be how we start hoops every year, so thanks for letting me get it out of my system. I won't bring it up again.

But with the NBA lockout and all.......

A lot of young talent. Kind of like the football team. These are the type teams that RB seems to do well with. No hype. No expectations. They'll surprise some people.

Barnes recruiting strategery has laid a solid egg for the 2011-2012 season. A couple of seniors (neither which should be starting), three juniors (of which J'Covan is the only one who should see the court), and a boatload of freshmen. Whew! This is going to be INTERESTING.....

All this means to me is that we will probably suck, and I definitely care if we lose a ton of games. And that does result in unhappiness with the coach.

The positive is that aside from Myck, all of the freshmen are likely to stay in the program for 3-4 years. That is a HUGE plus. Our problem has been getting players that are one and done and getting others that can't play.

This group is athletic and should see considerable PT over the next 3-4 years.

My biggest issue with Barnes has always been his incompetence in establishing and maintaining a consistent and meaningful rotation. He absolutely sucks in this department and that has hurt our development as a program. That and his lack of innovation on offense.
