so why can't we get something like that? Or even better, a fly by of some sort. I mean, we played a home game on September 11th, shouldn't that get some special attention?
I remember several years ago covering a Lions Club meeting here in Temple when the commander of Fort Hood was the speaker. He came over in a helicopter. He told us how much it cost to fire up that chopper just to bring him 30 miles for a 50-minute meeting. I was appalled ... er, excuse me, uphauled. It was more than $1,000.
And this was in the 80s.
I love to watch a good fly-by as much as the next person, but in this economy, it's a waste of tax dollars.
Waste of tax dollars my ***. Every single fly-over is a training sortie, so the pilots are getting something out of it. Lots of formation work, rejoins, TOT training, etc. In my opinion, there should be a fly-over during every timeout. NOTHING pumps up the crowd more than a 4-ship of Vipers lighting the AB and screaming by at 500' AGL. At least it might drown out the Taco Bell gong.
I fly Blackhawks in the Louisiana Guard...most of the time we just need the request to fly stuff like this...we always make it a training event and its fun to give back to the taxpayers who have been so supportive of us. But Blackhawks aren't as cool as jets for flyovers.
I remember a B-1 flying over ahead before I believe the '06 UT-tosu game. Also, I vaguely remember black hawks flying over a game a year or two after that.
We were at that game. It really was fun to watch. They showed the faceplant on a couple more times during timeouts and he cringed with embarassment every time. Was amazing that he hit that little target. In person the smoke looked green, the color of Michigan State, and confused me why he would fly the color of the visiting team even if he was rooting for them. On video it looks more yellow. Didn't realize he had the game ball.
