#1 Baylor 80 Texas 59

Head Coach Gail Goestenkors

Opening statement...
“Congratulations to Baylor. I think they proved once again why they’re the No. 1-ranked team in the country. We did some things defensively that bothered them initially, but they did what they always do and they adjust. And once they figured it out, they went on a run. They obviously, even when their shots weren’t falling early, they found a way, and that’s what great teams do. They find a way, and they did that with their offensive rebounding. So I thought they did a great job, and I’m disappointed overall for us. We just have to regroup.

On UT’s defense early in the game…
“I thought we were doing a pretty good job, but we weren’t finishing the shot with a rebound. They were missing some shots, but you have to get the rebound. Overall, our defense was good but you have to finish.”

On Baylor’s defense…
“They play excellent defense. Brittney gets a lot of credit for blocking and changing shots inside, but it’s their perimeter defense that sets the tone.”

On Griner’s progress over the past three years…
“She’s gotten better defensively. She doesn’t get in foul trouble. Doesn’t go for the shot fakes like she used to, she stays down. I also think she’s better at coming out to defend three-point shooters…her offensive repertoire has really improved.”
Sophomore Guard Chassidy Fussell

On Baylor’s defense changing UT’s offense…
“I don’t feel like they change it. I feel like we become intimidated, but I don’t think they change it.

On Griner’s presence causing outside shooting…
“She’s going to block it, I’ll give her credit for that.”
Senior Guard Yvonne Anderson

On UT’s ability to regroup…
“We have to let this one go and get ready for OU. There’s nothing we can change now. We can just learn from the little things that we haven’t been doing the whole season and commit to doing them versus OU.”

On how Griner changes the way she plays offense…
“She definitely makes you want to shoot more outside shots. As a guard, she intimidates you to the point where you want to shoot outside. Our posts don’t really look to score versus her. It’s just an intimidation factor.”

Our post don't look to score PERIOD!! It has nothing to do with Griner. Love Cokie and Gayle but I will be glad to see them graduate and continue their careers so we can get some post in there that SHOOT THE BALL!!

Lots of time to what? win a championship of any kind? when hell freezes over maybe... which is unfortunate for Cokie.

The mediocrity must stop...
