Please add Daje to the visit list for the weekend of the 28th as an Official Visitor as reported by the 'Cosm, Hookem.com, and a whole host of other pay sites... this is a kid who has been committed to TCU for what seems like forever has been coming to Austin and for games on unofficial visits... mind you he's been coming all the way from Pflugerville!! Seems to me he has just itching for an offer... whether or not he accepts it, remains to be seen. As of last week, Daje hadn't heard from Texas since before Christmas... He would be a very nice get this late in the game. Interesting weekends ahead!

Daje Johnson visit info...

========================================================================
Daje Johnson is still planning his official visit Texas (Austin) next weekend. After discussions with the Texas coaches, he is being recruited as an all-purpose athlete and will start off on the offensive side of the ball!

He said he feels "like Texas will offer... we'll have to wait & see".

Things are heating up for Daje... he met with Texas receiver coach Darrell Wyatt a couple days ago and was told that there's a high chance he'll get an offer. That offer could come in a couple of days....

It'll be interesting to see if the Horns can flip him with an offer after slow playing this kid for the last 4-5 months!

I am okay with getting ubber talented speedy WRs. However I would like to see more 6-3 or 6-4 receivers who can make plays with their size and frame as well.

the more i see how well they use those speedy, shifty uber-quick guys up in new england, the more i'm convinced that this is the way to go.

wes welker/deion branch clones are good enough for me

...of course a tom brady clone would be nice, too

I don't like to compare college wr's and what works to what works in the NFL as they are not fair comparisons but I agree with your thought. Think back to some guys that got it done here and you will find names like McGarity and Shipley who were not big guys. They were speedy, gritty when healthy and got **** done.

But what is the norm? Are those guys a dime a dozen or no? No big gut is a lock either. I don't care if our WR's are behemoths or small shifty tough guys running around roughshod as long as the job gets done.

I think there are enough average sized wr's in the pros that show that they can make the transformation just fine.

UPDATE - Monday, 11:10pm, per the boys at Hookem.com...

And just like that, Daje Johnson visit is back on! Major Applewhite has taken control of DJ's recruiting and is on the way to visit him, or was earlier... I'll spill all the beans in the morning!

He back off earlier this afternoon and was wondering why he hadn't been contacted by Texas from late in November till a week ago! Sounds to me that TCU has been in his ear telling him what they wanted him to hear... gotta admit that the 'staff' has strung this kid on.

Last night the sports radio in Austin had the recruiting guru didn't catch the name (may have been Ketcham) that Daje was cancelling his visit to Texas since he had not had contact since November. TCU offered and he committed and after thinking it over, he was going to stand by his commitment. Sounds like that situation may have all changed a couple of hours later......interesting. At this point, I still believe he signs with TCU.

I'm not sure i wouldnt take offense to not being contacted for 3 months then getting the call the week before the big day. Pretty enough to flirt with but not enough to get asked out.

This seems to be the issue of the year. That is, the late offers.

It really shouldn't be - at least in terms of how it works at Texas. Some kids are offered early. Over time, the rest of the class fills up. Texas has been holding 2-3 schollies for absolute elite players. It looks as if these 2 or 3 players are going to sign elsewhere meaning Texas is contacting players it hasn't had contact with for awhile.

There's really no way around it unless Texas wants to play the Derek Dooley, Nick Saban, Les Miles game of over-signing and then letting players go. I don't ever want to see Texas go that route. Hopefully, the parent's of some of these kids can come to terms with how Texas ethically recruits and that no slight is intended.

OK.... In my best Judge Chamberlain Haller voice:

"Is this yore opinion......or is this a fact"????
