OTHER GAMES

And nobody is doing less with more than Texas.

They SHOULD be curbstomping teams.

We mostly are. We have a 1 score win, a 2 score win, and seven 3+ score wins. Except for Indiana nobody else is dominating this many of their wins to such a "you could flip the result of every break they got and it still wouldn't matter" extent.

And the one score win against Vandy was a bad combo of bad luck too.

I know you are a numbers guy but based on your totals we have 10 wins (1+2+7=10). Are we counting the spring game in there?

Last time I checked we are 9-1 unless I missed something and then I would offer my forgiveness of pointing this out.

Thank you for an intelligent post. Really it comes down to what your goals are. Sarkisian, like most high level college coaches, wants to win. Hopefully, all the games, but at least in this case enough to make it to the playoffs with a good seed. (This is exactly my goal.). So, in a conference game in Arkansas, to push out to a two score lead, and then run the last 7 minutes off the clock and kneel the ball down for victory—that was impressive as far as winning, and is the kind of fourth quarter dominance that can win a championship.
Many fans see UT football as their “entertainment.” If there aren’t a lot of long plays, or big margin of victory, they bellyache because their day of entertainment was disappointing. Against Florida we killed the clock the same dominating way and knelt down to kill the clock and we had Hornfans saying, “oh great, they aren’t even going to try to score 50.” Any coach who would extend a game that could be ended, running more plays and extra points and kickoffs and risking defenders getting hurt while the other team desperately tries to score again, instead of putting the players back on the team bus with a guaranteed win —-the coach would be an idiot. Well, unless maybe you needed style points which is NOT the world we are in.

In his presser, when Sark was discussing kneeling the ball in the last two games. He mentioned playing the game the right way, and I'm totally fine with that.
You can have the Spurrier and Stoops type of coaches who want to run up the score on a defeated opponent.
On top of that, can you imagine the level of vitriol we would have on here if Wisner, Bond or Gunnar were hurt on a play where we were trying to get a late score when we could have kneeled it?

I agree now that the playoffs have been expanded. In the past, those two coaches and as many as they could would run up the score to try to impress the CFP Committee. That is less of an issue now, and the smart play is to get comfortably ahead, pull at least the starters (if not the second string), and cruise.

Allstate predictor now has our chances for making the Playoff:

Win out, make CCG, lose it: >99%
Lose to UK, beat A&M, miss CCG: 86%
Lose to A&M: 75%
Lose to UK, beat A&M, lose CCG: 56%
Lose out: 2%

I'm thinking the thresholds for the bottom three scenarios have us out. That 75% after losing to A&M is based on FPI and computer stuff, not what actual humans would rank at a conference table. Beating A&M and finishing 10-2 after a weird misstep against the Wildcats would probably get us in as the 10-or-11-seed in my opinion.

But losing to A&M, finishing 10-2 with our best win against Florida (according to the computers at least)... my guess is that there are going to be some humans doing their darndest to keep us out of it. I bet we could still pull the 11-seed if that was the case, but it'll be CLOSE.

There's no chance with 3 losses, including losing the CCG after going 10-2. An 11-2 Texas team with a CCG loss is in. Pretty easily too... something from a #6-8 seed with a guaranteed home game.

It isn't just Fowler. The reality is that, what originally seemed a strong schedule, is very mediocre. And nobody is doing less with more than Texas.

They SHOULD be curbstomping teams but the Quarterback Whisperer is too stubborn to put a mobile QB in the game. The result is predictable mediocrity that is seen by all.
I don't have a problem with anyone taking pot shots at us for our perceived shortcomings. We ain't perfect by a long shot. But I wouldn't want to play us. Will we win it all? Who knows. I don't think any team, including that undefeated juggernaut Oregon, is a slam dunk to win the natty.

Don't look now, but Colorado State is currently #1 in defense in the MWC and headed to the CCG if they can get past Fresno and Utah St. Our schedule has been seen as weak since before the season even started, but turnarounds by the likes of the Rams, Gators, and Vandy have made it a lot more palatable.
