These two are "on the bubble" as far as whether they'll get drafted high enough, with enough $$$ offered, to forsake college. I really hope we get both of them. They could both be significant contributors next year.
I don't get this one. D Kennedy ended up the starting 2nd baseman his true Freshman year. Maybe the new coaches aren't as enamored of his playing abilities as the old coaches were. Or a portal guy (who is much better than D. Kennedy) is a lock.
Casey Cummings didn't seem to get along with Pierce or something... Casey has a good power bat and raw skills. Yeah, he might stand some more work on his outfield defense, but we've fielded a lot worse in the OF before. I think if Casey gets a good start with the new coaches, he could make some waves. Farmer--he flashed some talent, with experience, he could be good in the OF.
Maybe we cross-train both Galvan and Shoos at 1B...? Galvan and Shoos showed us what normal/average college level defensive catching looks like. We've been used to guys like Ardoin and G-Wagon who were all conference 1st team (both of them I think). I'd like to get back to that level and not see many runners stealing bases on us (or even trying it).
Haven’t seen anything. Just throwing that out there. Speculating 101. Coach probably already met with those on the current roster and they know where they stand.
Kennedy beat out Gumbo and he’s very similar, he needs to work on his glove if he wants an opportunity.
I definitely wanted to see more Cummings last year, sadly he only got a few at bats and didn’t come through with them. In Schloss we trust. If Thomas leaves, that opens up one spot in the outfield and he adds much needed experience.
Aiden Moffett Looking at his innings for this year, best description, slight inconsistency. He faired decent against stiff competition in my opinion and then seemed to maybe lose focus a couple of innings against lesser competition such as Grambling and similar schools where he allowed a few runs. He seems to either strike them out, or allows a HR or BB. 98-100mph fastball, 5.6 ERA, 17 innings pitched, 21 SO's, 18 hits, 11 runs, 15 BB's. 2 years of eligibility left.
Eli Trop Another transfer from Penn. 6'4" 225lbs., 3.33 ERA, 24.1 innings, 32 SO's, 15BB's, 19 hits. 1 year of eligibility. Projected as a reliever.
We still need starting pitching and more relievers. Door (portal) closes Tuesday i think, July 2nd. Next opportunity isn't until Dec 1-15.
Is this a paid position for Tulo? Maybe I'm stuck in the past, but wasn't he a volunteer coach? Maybe he doesn't need the income and doesn't care, but I'm just curious...
Were those two held back at some point in their schooling? Normal progression: COLLEGE: Freshman - start at 18, end at 19 Sophomore - start at 19, end at 20 Junior - start at 20, end at 21 Senior - start at 21, end at 22 (Senior for some Hornfans.com posters - end at 24-25). These 2 did not redshirt and have finished their Sophomore years. They will be starting their Junior years soon. They should be 20 years old, not 21. To be eligible for the MLB draft, they need to be 21 to be in the draft as guys between their Soph and Junior years. What's going on?
A lot of parents hold their kids back from starting school so they have an extra year of development and better prepared for success. Not sure if that’s the case with these two but they are both projected to be drafted according to MLB.com. Thomas rather high.
