Transfer Portal 2024

Phelia looks like a really good get. Gotta give Vic some kudo's for that one.

For those who know about her style of play, do you see her as being able to run the point until Rori get's healthy, or will that still fall on Maddie? OR, is Vic still trying to get a back-up PG from the portal?

 

I think it’s possible Gisella Maul progresses over the summer to play PG in the beginning of the season while Rori is out.

 

Phelia, like Booker, played some PG out of necessity last season... perhaps the reason her shooting fell off some.

Incoming freshman Bryanna Preston is a PG, and Vic has compared her to Rori. He has also stated that all three of his incoming freshman will play right away and play a lot.

That said, we now have several capable of handling those responsibilities (even if by committee) if Rori is not ready to roll from Day 1.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am completely comfortable having Maddie as our starting point until Rori is healthy
Phelia, Maul, and the freshman can get whatever minutes they earn from Vic at the point too.

 

I think Vic puts Book back in her natural position unless nothing else works at PG. Unlike the past couple of seasons, we'll definitely have some viable options.

 

I just don’t see her at Texas. Especially now. It’s not like she morphed into a stellar PG in Baton Rouge

I will be curious to see when Laila enrolls at Texas -- Summer or Fall. If she's planning on receiving her undergraduate degree from Michigan, it's not a given that she'll be a May graduate (as that would be 3 full academic years). We saw how we had to wait until August 2022 for both Sonya Morris and Shaylee Gonzales to enroll as grad-transfers.

Personally, I see no reason (assuming Rori is healthy) to have Laila try and learn PG duties when Booker and Maul focused on that this past season; plus, that will most likely be part of Preston's learning when she arrives at Texas. Seems like it would be best for the team if she were asked to focus on shooting guard and small forward responsibilities.

 

I think Phelia would only help with PG in a pinch. I agree we need her on the wing.

 

This smelled funny from the beginning only because it was tCu. What a joke.

 

I just noticed our strength has become our weakness we are not deep in the paint now we got 4 1/2 if you count Jak filling in at the 4 some! Idek if there is a player in the portal who could help us tbh. Kiki is usc likely or ucla, Beers it seems to be no interest at least from what we know, Gardner really is a 4 but idek if interest is there, Barker is to expressive for Vic I don’t think that would be a good connection for either party but what do I know. I guess I’m asking who can help us in the paint?

 

It’s all about Harmon. Where is she come start of season. I’m thinking Schaefer knows next year could be a special year. And wants to start off fast with no early messy losses. My fair and biased opinion is if Harmon is 100 % healthy come October, then you might see Maul or the freshman with a few of the minutes at PG. If Harmon is 50% healthy, then Booker is taking the other 50% at PG. Booker even might start at PG. The first is preferred. The second is not preferred. Lots of variations…..but it’s all about Harmon. Schaefer will put his best team on the floor to win. TODAY…neither Maul or Preston would be the best option as backup PG.

I was concerned about this until Deyona left. So Amina leaving too is a real gut punch.

 

Amina may not be replaceable from the portal. She is such a versatile player.

 

We have literally no one left in the 4 or 5 position

 

Ok now I’m shook frfr who is left in the portal that can help. Kiki, Beers, and Barker all seem like no go but maybe Gardiner or Vonleh maybe idek what impact bigs are in the portal that will help us get better and higher, further, faster……

 

I know it's not going to happen. But for a split second I wondered if we could talk Faye back to Texas. Nah, probably not. She was most likely told by the staff that it was best for her to move on. Would be awkward if they did an about face.

 

Is there any doubt that Justice Carlton gets some serious PT this season?

Losing Amina hurts, but it's not the end of the world. Carlton may be better by conference play anyway, maybe sooner. And Vic will probably pick up a replacement that could be better. Now if it were Aaliyah I may (*&%(%.

You can't really blame her for wanting more min, and she's not going to get it at Texas.

 

If Cameron Williams came to Austin with Phelia, I hope Texas looks more attractive to her now. She 6 foot three, and I think played center for Michigan. She averaged 7 pts,/ game.
