SEC Tournament

Well the good news if it comes to playing the #3 seed (LSU), they are supposedly without Flaujae until the NCAA’s with a shin injury.

Our probable first game could be Ole Miss. A tough draw but glad we didn’t get Oklahoma. They are playing really well right now! Would not be surprised to see them beat Kentucky and play SC in the semifinals!

Just thinking that these last several games, Justice enters with her "freshman hesitation and indecision" for some period of time before some play makes her relax, whether it's a rebound, a hand intercepting a pass, or getting to the line. And once she finds that, like many freshmen, you can almost see her demeanor relax a bit more and she starts to play at a better pace and often becomes very defensively disruptive to the other team, will rebound really well, and will take the ball to the basket without rushing. It's great to see that switch go on for her, and it's happening earlier now. Vic says she likes contact and to bang down under the basket and you are starting to see it more. I think we may see more than one or two games where Justice may have meaningful minutes for us in both upcoming tournaments. Horns Up!

I sure hope so... I really like that kid and want to see her do well. She's very skilled and physical.

Yes. I really like Justice. Rori recently talked about detail and how Vic is a detail coach. Defense is a science involving location, angles, adjustments etc that is rarely taught well in high school. Some players struggle with that level of preciseness and you can watch a Vic team get better and better at it as the season goes on. You can also see those players who either can’t or won’t work to get better at it. At first, it seems to mess with offensive progress but eventually it all comes together. It’s why Vic teams usually do better in post conference play. I’d rather have a balanced offensive/defensive effort than the offensive priority approach… but that’s just me.

It’s going to come off negative but please don’t be shocked if we get clipped in the sec tourney. We survived more than a few teams so if we do get got I don’t think we loss our 1 seed. A loss might further ignite us actually but nobody wants to lose.

Agreed. We're ripe for the picking if we come out slow like we have the past several games. I also think our total body of work should protect the #1 seed.

I think that Vic has been preparing them for this point in time for the entire season, and could only dream they'd be entering it as the No. 1 team in the nation. If I listen to all he says, I think he'd be talking to them right now about how they are the #1 team with the SEC POY of the year who just won the SEC and how they should go in to the tournament and act like it - assert themselves early in games and start playing like they want this thing from tip off to the horn. Taylor and Kyla should feel free to put a chip on those shoulders for being a great duo that went unrecognized, yet won the title. Rori should get a little feisty about being the floor general for the no.1 team in the nation and not getting an all-team spot. Shay should think of ways to show out for not being on the all defensive team. Stay hungry, be humble, but find your swagger and embrace how great you can be because the ENTIRE TEAM brings something to the floor. Hook'em!

Watching the Miz v MSST game… Someone on this board commented that Courtney Lyle overreacts to every play when she is announcing a game and now I can’t unhear that. :idk:

I’m not saying I’m not worried - of course I am - but I keep reminding myself of two things:
1. Vic’s teams get better this time of year.
2. We typically play teams better the second time we meet them.

I’m sure those two things are connected.

In my SEC Tourney dreams, I dream about a Texas team that comes out punching everyone that stands in its way. Realistically, I know that doesn't happen much in this conference. BUT, there's always time to start something new!

If Rori gets her shooting on track and Maddy is shooting well, we go to the finals and probably win. If those things don't happen, we struggle. That's my take anyway.

In the majority of our conference wins, three players got to double digits with one usually getting to at least 16. Occasionally we saw the 20+ breakout from someone. In a few of those wins we had four getting to low double digits without anyone breaking out. What’s interesting is how frequently if was a different group of 3/4 getting us there.

What’s extremely encouraging is that we had 7 players who got there at different times and multiple times, but only needed three to win most games:
Booker (14x)**
Harmon (8x)**
Holle (4x)*
Jones (12x)**
Lee (4x)*
Mwenentanda (5x)*
Oldacre (7x)*

** At least one 20pt+ game
* At least one 15pt+ game

And Preston and Carlton each got there for the game against Arkansas.

Update: we only needed two players in double digits to beat Ole Miss

This Texas team is flawed offensively and because of that I think either Ole Miss or Mississippi State will win like they almost did the first time. This Texas team is just not very good offensively. It's also why I don't think they will make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

Texas ranks 11th nationwide in scoring offense (7 pts per game less than #1)

Texas is 17th nationally in field goal percentage at 47% (UConn tops at 51%)

Wow you are consistent. Most of us here know exactly how you feel about our Ladies. 🤔But maybe there is a method to your opinions...like reverse psychology. Secretly you may be a huge Texas fan. I can only hope.

We played Ole Miss on the road. It was our third game in 6 days and the previous two were #8 Maryland and #17 Tennessee. During that stretch, we lost Moore and were making adjustments to the lineup without her. Mwenentanda got her first start. I wouldn’t spend too much time comparing this game to that game.

Nahhh... sounds more and more like the bitter spouse of a former coach to me.
