I think most wish he'd handled that question better, but there may be more to this story than meets the eye. From what I've been able to piece together, this deal was done soon after aggy's Georgia series (so late April or early May), and a lot of people knew about it. The guy that posed the question in the post-game presser was not an actual journalist, but an employee of Texags, and from what I understand the Texags folks had been sitting on this story for at least a couple of weeks. (Why didn't they publish it sooner? I have no idea, maybe they thought their AD would throw a Hail Mary and entice him to stay.) From what I've heard, Schloss knew that Texags knew, so in his mind the intent of the question was to force him to reveal his plans at the worst possible time for him and his players (just after losing the national championship). Schloss interpreted the question as a big "f**k you" from Texags, a group he's helped over the years, and it infuriated him. I wish it had played out differently but it didn't, but right now I'm going to support the guy 100% because he's our new head coach.
Schloss & Lucci are friends, even dining at each others houses. The "reporter" works for Lucci, who admittedly told him at the last minute he could ask the question. Seems Lucci has been playing nice through this whole thing, as have the older Ags I know; that's what bothered me the most, wondering if we were being set up.
The same court and jury types that indicted then BOR President for using a school plane to travel to SEC sporting events when the Aggie BMDs were researching the possibility of applying to the SEC? In fairness the president had a bunch of kids and step-kids at several different SEC schools. Joke amongst his friends was the family was trying to cover the entire SEC. BTW, the guy is a great human being and would die before harming A&M.
The coach was just fine. He made the fatal mistake of bringing a crazy-assed Lubbock woman along for the ride, and the rest is history.
I have read stupid posts like this on TexAgs. Texas doesn’t officially join the SEC until July 1. So even if it did make sense to get the SEC involved, they have no standing. The stupidity just hurts sometimes.
Curious if employment contracts have caps on liability such as consequential damages. It was mentioned the buyout clause is basically the upper limit that the employee has to pay for roundly screwing up.
If anything were going to come of that, it would be against the current SEC coach involved - not the future SEC member school.
Okay this lawsuit is more stupid than I originally surmised. If everyone knew Schloss was leaving (call the BMD’s, TexAgs, etc to the witness stand), shouldn’t the lawsuit be directed at their own administration?
I think the biggest flaw in aggy thinking is their feeling that the SEC actually gives two craps about them. The SEC courted us and OU without any regard for what aggy thought. I’d be shocked if the SEC all of a sudden came to their defense over this. We have always been the prize for the SEC in the state of Texas. Aggy just refuses to acknowledge that.

Kiffin stiffed Tennessee for Ole Miss and you didn't hear the Vols threatening law suits, filing grievances with secsecsec, talk about leaving the conference. Do they like him? No, but they were MUCH more mature about their loss than aggy is being. Were the roles reversed we wouldn't like it either, but I'm certain we'd be much more mature. Does aggy behavior surprise anyone? Not at all. It's just aggy aggying it up. Baby aggy be baby aggy.
For our attorney friends on HornFans - wouldn't the payment of $3.5 million for Schloss' exit negate any claim of "economic damages"?

Not an attorney but it depends if the contract excludes consequential damages regarding liability. I suspect the contract is silent on that since the coach works under the administration of the university. I think it is handled simply by being fired with cause for breaching the contract. I also suspect that all claims or liabilities are moot once the exit fee is paid.
I'd have to read the contract itself, but this sounds like it's probably a liquidated damages provision ("because the actual damages would be too difficult to determine, the parties hereby agree that a breach of this contract will result in damages of $xxxx"). Now the accusations of tampering with players while still under contract with that university might be a different matter.
