Texas vs Mizzou Game Thread

My take on Herman is this: if we are offended by the Nutts and Bielema's of the world then we need to call our own coaches out for doing the same stuff.

I prefer that we don't do anything like this no matter what happened before or during the game. This program hasn't felt like Texas for a long time, but it's still Texas.

Just win and walk away.
Agree, brings to mind what the immortal DKR said, when you reach the end zone and score, act like you have been there before.

Is it possible Herman didn't know they were mocking Lock? Maybe he just saw his players being goofy and felt like being goofy with them?

I don't know, and while it is somewhat disturbing if he was mocking the kid, I don't really care that much...

Even though we think Saban is the anti-christ, he is not one to get involved in this sort of thing. He is on another level. Always forward thinking and whatever everyone else is doing is only something for him to evaluate in the context of winning. I'm not sure I'd say he's classy; but I'd say he is focused and keeps his head screwed on tight.

247 had the coach recap. Herman said, among other things:

-- Daniel Young provided Texas with a guy who could break tackles, which Herman said is what the offense needed. "He has a lot of work to do, but I'm excited to have him around here for a long time."

yes ... a tackle breaker ... because the tackle breaking opportunity usually starts behind the LOS.

I have to admit, I chuckled when I realized what appeared to be happening with the modified chicken dance ... but if it WAS a team taunt of their QB ... yeah, poor form and mea culpa for the initial tacit approval.

I wasn't there, only watched like most of us, by the leave of ESPN ... so I'm sure there's much missed in that.

I would rather be complaining that our coach seems to be having fun with winning versus saying "we just got to play better" after not reaching the 50 yard line most of the game.

We had no business winning that game with so many starters out. Hats off to Coach Herman and the team. That was some Texas Fight.

I love when the other team dances around doing the horns down and we shove it up their *** on the field.
When the Mizzoo QB did his little thing after the TD I was wondering what the **** he was doing.
I would rather Herman stay above the fray on this, but I can lay it off on a bonding moment with his squad.
Hopefully we begin to win enough so it doesn't seem like such a big deal.
And I liked the way the team responded to feeling disrespected.
Great win.
Way to go defense.
Way to go MVP our punter. (Let's not have this happen ever again)
Beck was better. I'll give him that.

Agreed. BS on Herman’s part. Act like you make $5MM a year. Grow up.
Totally agree, but listen to some of his calls with signees last week. It seems that part of his appeal to recruits/players is he tries to play-down onto their level. On one call every second or third word was "man" (as in thanks man, etc.).

I believe he was just trying to show his team that he was as excited as they were, and he could care less what anyone not directly involved with the team thought. Show me unedited video of Myer or Saban doing the chicken dance on the sidelines within the past 5 years, and Herman can be forgiven.

When you keep putting lawn darts inside the ten, it makes MUCH sense. He had some good help on a few of them though...
Yes to the lawn darts; and "good help on a few of them" is what a well coached team does. If his team mates had not been in position to down the ball inside the 10 yard line, we would have gone nuts wondering why they weren't well coached.

The special teams and defense were outstanding last nights. Hats off to them!

It's hindsight, but I wouldn't make that big of a deal if Nuttmunch did the horns down. I'd think it's below him and not ideal. Just because we overreacted once, doesn't mean overreacting now is right.

It was not ideal, but not terrible. Wasn't back when it happened to us either.

I kind of feel like that’s what it was, he didn’t know what they were doing he just went with it along with his team

I admit I laughed when I saw it -- it was funny.
That game was something of an emotional release (aided perhaps a little by the adult beverage of choice)
I also admit I enjoyed the interaction with Herman and his players (during what some are calling the "Lott titty dance"), in light of all the rumors/reports about what a hardass Herman is to them. See Hager quote below on this.
Further, Lott apparently was not bothered by it at all.

But it's probably not something the head coach should be doing.
In the future.

I think we are just in a new era. The music is different and the coaches are different. Coach Royal was a legend and a master of his craft in a different era. Maybe Herman should act like Saban but there's a big age gap between them too. Herman as you said was probably releasing a lot of pent-up emotion and wanted to share in the euphoria. It's been a tough year for him. Maybe it's time we accept this sort of thing; HOWEVER, we can't complain when other teams do the same to us.

That was a solid win last night. The D played well, the O didn't struggle (as much as we're used to seeing). The guys were loose and confident which indicated to me they spent time watching tendencies and on their assignments and were confident in their roles

Always enjoy seeing an SEC team lose. They got nuthin!
I do not recall ever seeing a Punter being the MVP in a bowl game. But 10 of 11 punts inside the ten and a bunch inside the five...Wow!! He flipped the field every time. The down side...we punted 11 times.
Hagger earned wearing #60 and had some good sticks and a fumble recovery
The D play was top notch, the backups stepped up
Gary Johnson is a monster!
The D got 4 takeaways, scored a TD and may have had another, but the Mizzou QB kicked the ball out of the EZ
The Oline played better, but still needs work.
Shane was having good night until the leg injury
Sam had a good night and protected the ball
We ran the ball effectively, the reverse Armanti ran in for a TD was a great call!
CJ, Foreman and Burt stepped up their play
All the Seniors got to take the final play to run out the clock

The better team won that game. Joe Jon had his hands full there with the UT defense. I think the more proven OL/DL proved to be the difference. At one point in the 3rd I thought the tempo was going to get to the UT defense. They bounced back. I was watching on DVR skipping between plays and had to go back and see the hubbub with Herman prancing around. Not a good look. Doing it toward the other sideline was where he crossed the line in my mind. Doing it with his players could at least be justified to some extent. I'd be disappointed if Riley or Stoops pulled that stuff. Good win. Way to get one for the conference.

The Mizzou QB wasn't offended. http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...m-herman-mocks-missouri-qb-drew-lock-td-dance

If you can believe this, the TEXAGS site had more replies on their Texas Bowl game thread than we did on ours. Obsessed much?
Oh I can believe it. Make sure to bookmark that site and go back if the Aggies manage to lose to Wake Forest. If they do that, they'll melt the server.

Or, "It scares you to death." In the heat of the moment, I have to admit that I loved it. Message sent, message received. Don't give UT bulletin material. There have been Texas teams that rolled over and didn't respond or flat got intimidated (remember Miami?). This team said "No mas!" and delivered. I also believe TH unloaded a truckload of frustration last night and I'll give him a flyer on last nights antics.

Haven't posted in a long time.

Tom's celebration last night really has me fired up. Most here seemed to not have liked it. Most on Shaggy loved it. As an "older" fan, I 100% LOVED it. Players and recruits loved it. I love it that we have a Coach that brings some attitude. True, Royal and some other Texas coaches would not have done it. But this is not 1963. Or the '70s. Or the '80s. It is 2017 and football and the times have changed.

I remember Jimmy Johnson stating that the team that wins two of three phases of the game will prevail. He always made it a point to win special teams, leaving the other team needing to win on both offense and defense. Thanks to Michael Dickson, our special teams were death last night. The defense obviously won and since the offense didn't turn the ball over, they did enough to win. Give credit where credit is due. With even one or two turnovers last night we probably don't win. Each of the mizzou turnovers were game changers. .

I have to admit it made me laugh as well. I thought he was just clowning and the way the players responded to it was great to see.
I didn't know he was mocking Lock because I missed that part of the game when Lock did his little pose.
Count me in the "He better not be doing this **** when we're winning 9 or ten games a year and in the play-off hunt" but at the end of this* season, its nice to see the team, and their coach, have some fun.
