Fielding--5 ERRORS IN OU GAME 1

Yep. We're seeing why the MLB scouts rate Flores so high. Defensively, he's a stud. And this year, he's batting pretty well too.

 

And Powell made multiple really good plays in the field today. He may have flubbered one, I don't think it was an 'E' though.

 

There were some good plays, but these pointless errors have to stop. Fielding is going to cost us against better competition. Not sure why Powell whiffed on that pretty reasonable grounder at 3rd today, but it seemed very playable.

 

Underrated:

Gumbo
Belyeu
Cummings
D. Kennedy

 

Trust me, gumbo is not underrated and to be frank I think it's way overrated. I prefer a good etoufee.

 

Defensively, the keys to me are:

Belyeu in RF
Thomas at 1st - I would prefer Thomas in CF, i actually feel more comfortable with him there over Gasparino but this is where we are at with the combo of offense and defensive choices. Too bad we lost Luke Storm.
Kennedy 2nd
Gasparino CF

Kennedy gives us more range but he needs time to work with Flores, pretty good weekend for them two to develop chemistry.

Obviously we need to eliminate the errors this weekend, you can count a run for each error this weekend, good teams make you pay for those and the next four opponents WILL make us pay for them.

 

Alternative position lineup:

C Powell
1B Galvan or Shoos (the other will be DH)
2B Jack or D Kennedy
SS Gumbo
3B Flores

 

We need to be working Purchase into games at C during these mid-week games (maybe not against Texas State).

 

D. Kennedy has bobbled some balls lately, but he does bring a range to the 2B position that we're not used to seeing.

Where do you stand on pistolettes?

 

I've actually never had one. Next time I'm in NOLA i'll seek them out. I've never seen one on a menu around Austin either. If you know of a place I'd love to try it out. I usually eat at Maxine's in Manor when I'm craving it. They have pretty solid cajun food but I haven't seen this on the menu.

 

I think its fair to say the team is aware they are underperforming this season and so were pressing too much facing the #1 Sooners.

 

9 hit batters in 1 game. 5 errors in 1 game. This team is something else. Then they go ahead and beat OU the next 2 games.
