Noticed NCAA ruled today that ALL transfers must enter portal by May 1. Change is that graduate transfers didn’t have to do that. So expect a lot of transfers in next few days. A caviat is that if the head coach leaves, players can transfer at any time.

Maybe she is the one visiting this weekend?

Cameron Williams averaged 6.4 points last year and 7.5 points this year. She last her starting role in December. Played sparingly first two years at Michigan. She’s extremely smart. Apparently a good teammate and leader. If she came, she would be using her fifth year via COVID. Probably a good trade Muhammad for Williams. Wouldn’t provide same defensive versatility but a better inside game. Definitely a 4. Don’t think I would classify her as a 5.

Ok, then maybe we have a chance with Barker or Timea Gardiner?

Looks like Beers is deciding between UConn and OU.

Disappointing. I was hoping she'd regain her pre-injury form and be ready to contribute consistently.

Yep, me too. Not surprised though with the addition of Lee, Preston, and Phelia. Honestly, I thought she might be one of the first to enter. Definitely wishing her all the best.

I mean, that is logical. She's known since November that Lee and Preston were coming. Phelia to me is potentially the trigger as she's the likely favorite to assume Gonzales' starting SG spot which Maul would be competing for. Would have thought this decision would have been announced much sooner after the season ended. But, Phelia announced a few days ago seems like the reason even though Phelia will be at Texas just one season. I get it thought; players want to play in the game and be starters as that is what they were used to in high school.

Currently, the roster still looks strong at guard and guard/forward with a mix of youth and experience. The forward/post roster consists of Taylor Jones? Maybe Abbie will be ready to play some? How does all this movement affect team chemistry and morale? The team came through such adversity to win a tourney championship and get to an elite 8. And now this? Is Vic driving the turnover with aggressive portal recruiting to take the next step? I will likely never know about the cart and the horse. Just hope Texas ends up with a competitive cohesive team in the fall.

I think that is a foregone conclusion. I will be shocked beyond words if we aren't competitive, particularly if that is due to a lack of team play and cohesion.

One of the things that worried me (and probably others on here) was how would Vic's decision to play Booker, Gonzales, and Holle almost every minute of every game this season affect players on the bench who wanted to play. And, I get that you earn your playing time in practice. Gisella Maul was specifically the one I felt could be affected.

None of the above is a surprise to Vic, I'm sure. He knows how things have changed and nobody wants to be "depth". Every competitive player wants to play (significant minutes) and be a starter; not everyone can be. Vic is smart enough to know that bringing in an elite transfer could cost him an existing player at that same position (which he stated on record previously).

This makes a lot of sense. And candidly, this is less of a loss than the post players. A guard leaving made a lot more sense rather than the bigs. And if it doesn't look like she'd play much in the upcoming season, its probably good for both player and team. Although she was not the guard I envisioned entering the portal, I think we'll be solid at that position next season. We just need to get the 4/5 position solidified and I'm good.

No surprise.Maul was on my portal possibility list. A position of need and she gets minimal or zero minutes per game. Who's next ? Codio? Jack?.
This team is going to look completely different next season. As per norm of Vic's teams here, I expect some ugly and head scratching losses early on.
But still believe we will be a competitive conf contender ( well at least the SEC west) by the end of season.

Gisella Maul having played her club ball with Cy-Fair Elite like Moore did is one of the reasons why Justice Carlton might have felt comfortable coming to Texas. I was hoping having so many players from Cy-Fair Elite on our roster would be an advantage for us trying to land Aaliyah Chavez.

No shock here The only shock I had was Amina and maybe D but with a healthy and productive AMo I get it. I think these exit meetings had some real come to Jesus moments and the team we had was not going to compete in the SEC period. We was going to fizzle out at about the same spot with same roster that had the same weakness. I’m just licking my chops to see who coming in cause it’s some hoopers left in the portal. It ain’t like it ain’t much to chose from

I am really, really surprised by the 'no surprise', 'not surprised', 'seems logical' comments. Gisella was one of these gung-ho, Longhorn baby pictures, Longhorn for life, my dream school local girls. She was a GREAT high school player with 2 Texas 5A state championships and 2 gatorade players of the year award under her belt! I personally am very surprised that she didn't give it one more year just for her love of the school.......Unless? And I am pretty sure this is what happened. Vic laid it on the line in no uncertain terms that these are your short comings and this is what we have coming in resulting in his thoughts on her long term playing possibilities. I have been told Vic does not mince his words when discussing the player performance reviews and his thoughts on their future with the team. He loves his players but he can be brutally honest with them.
Gisella was not a point guard. She only played there because we didn't have anyone else to give Book a rest. She was a Great spot up shooter in high school but never showed it at Texas. We need players with the her love for the school at Texas. Sure wish it would have worked out for her.

I wish it would have worked out with her also for the reasons you mentioned. Although not really surprised with her decision to transfer, I did think maybe she would stick it out another year and try to find her niche with the team... perhaps developing into the role of that shooter she was known to be who is inserted into the game strategically. Again, definitely wishing her the best.

We are currently recruiting 2025 Ayla McDowell (ESPN Hoopgurlz #20) who is a Cy-Fair Elite teammate of Chavez. If we get McDowell, that could be an additional boost for Chavez as she would be connected to Carlton and McDowell from Cy-Fair.

For those who've kept count, how many scholarships do we have open now? I assume we are still only seeking 4s and 5s at this point, as I think we are pretty solid at guard.
