Wouldn't most of that have to do with the head coach? I'm surprised by the fact that they've only had one player in Gaston jump into the portal so far. With only one scholarship available and only one starting position at 2 guard open, it's more than likely that they strike out in the portal recruiting again.

 

Another topic beyond my realm of knowledge... but I know we seemed to be, for the most part, an attractive program under the previous staff. If that is the case (mostly due to HC) then we've got a double-edged sword. No way we win a Big 12 regular season championship, two tournament titles, and make three Elite 8 appearances in the past four years without him coaching up the the players to overachieve. I don't know many, if any, who could have accomplished that with those teams.

I saw on another message board where someone posted that Deja Kelly's Mom started following TexasWBB, BaylorWBB, and AggieWBB accounts (didn't specify if twitter or Instagram). I didn't see that on IG.

 

I think it’s way too early in the transfer portal process to get down on our current staff. Let it play out before implying Vic’s staff is inferior to Aston’s staff when it comes to recruiting. I think the talent Vic’s staff has brought in over the years warrants some respect and latitude.

 

Amen. There's NOTHING about our current staff that's inferior to that of the previous regime. I'll repeat... I don't know many, if any, that could have done what Vic and his staff have done with the teams of the past four years.

 

IMO the talent has been hit or miss. The recruiting class with Rori and Aaliyah was obviously really good, but IMO the guard recruiting hasn't been what it needs to be. Which is the reason that you can say that most of his teams have over achieved.

 

There's no question that Vic has done a heck of a job coaching, but IMO his overall recruiting could be better, especially at the guard position.

 

Some players take longer to adjust to the faster pace of college basketball. Most of the guards this past season who didn’t see much playing time were coming off substantial injuries and were underclass men as well. Same for the two young centers. The comment that Vic and his staff have done less with more has a lot to do with the players he inherited early on and the avalanche of injuries they’ve had to endure the past couple of years.

 

I believe Loyal has one year of eligibility remaining. I liked her speed.

That's a really good pick up for tech. If Gaston stays healthy, I think they can make the tournament.

If we can pull a guard from the Portal, I can’t think of a better option than Nye. Dead eye shooter from 3 and seemed to be a pretty good defender in the game against Texas.

The Vol fans think Nye will follow Coach Tubner to Tennessee. Tubner was an assistant coach at Bama. He was recently hired by Coach Caldwell to be a part of the Lady Vols staff.
